'10 OH ATH Spencer Ware (LSU signee)

Spencer was at the combine yesterday, but did not workout...He had a baseball game, so he showed up I believe to get height and weight, and then was there after his game when the combine was winding up...

He just looks like a player tho...He is only about 5'10 5'11 tho so I don't see QB unless he puts on 2 or 3 inches...

From a scout tho, the kid can play anywhere...RB, WR, CB, S, etc...Take him and find a position later...If grades and all that are in order, this kid will be an early offer for sure IMO...

From OhioVarsity.....Says Cincinnati, Ohio State & Illinois are recruiting him the hardest. Says he does not have any verbal offers at this point, but says most schools are looking at him as a RB, unless he gets any taller, than he could be offered as a QB. Talks about his expectations for the upcoming season.

I know it is an early article, but you have to like the idea that there is no Tennessee mentioned...That is the team that scares me a whole lot here...

Me too...grew up a UT fan and Fat Phil has had some luck in the Cincy area. Nice too see we're in early on him.

I have been following recruiting for almost 7 years now and I can only remember one Ohio kid (Cordale Scott) who had an OSU offer and went to either UC or Illinois. So I agree with you guys that it is very good news that those are the 2 teams, along with OSU, who are recruiting him the hardest.

Given that the '09 recruiting is almost complete, I think the staff are evaluating '10 prospects early this year. This way, they'll send out a spate of September 1 offers to a lot of the '10 prospects, and they wouldn't have to worry about it again until the season ends. Ware is apparently one of them.

My best guess for others would include Gardener, Macon, Gholston, Henderson, James and Turner.

I disagree. IMO, i think the staff will evaluate the class of '10 as by the same time frame as they would for any other classes. What i am saying is that the rate we are filling this class will neither deter nor accelerate their accustomed time table (whatever it may be).

As far as I understand, the catalyst for this year's unusual rapid rate of early commitments stems from the staffs realizing the immense potential this current team has to achieve the ultimate goal - that crystal ball. There is definitely a strong sense of urgency filtrating from the top (Head Coach) down to every player. The season is and WILL be the focus, rather than evaluating prospective recruits earlier than recent years, or in the past.
Well, at least that is what I am hoping the staffs are thinking also. JMO.

EDIT: Sorry, mods...i know this is out of topic....feel free to move it to appropriate forums.

The entire recruiting process is accelerating, and if you want to see the results of failure to adjust to that point no further than to Florida State who recently discovered you can sign prospects before signing day.

Florida State found a way to have verbally committed players sign their L.O.I.s before signing day? Must be a reward from the NCAA for running a clean program.

True. But since there's such a discrepancy between what we are seeing in this year's trend and our staffs' previous approach, one has to recognize the hidden message in between the lines. This is the first time I have seen in Tressel's era that we become so proactive in encouraging the ('09) kids to "seize the moment", to grab onto a spot while it last. The message, and I believe, forecasts the determination and dedication, more so than other years, of our staff and this team to become the last team standing comes Jan. of ?09. Those kids (recruits) sense it. They are inspired by it and want, in the worse way, to be a part of it.
I am not arguing the inevitable evolution we have witnessed over the years in this "business" of recruiting. And, looking back the past few years, it is evident that Coach Tressel and his staffs are adapting quite well. However, I would defer the notion that the change of our recruiting strategy this year is necessarily permanent. Coach Tressel WILL always advise kids to take thorough time in order to make an educated decision, one that has a lasting impact to their lives. In the other words, IMO, our staffs will eventually ?mellow out? after this post season and go back to what they truly do best. That is being patient, genuine, persistent and detail-oriented.
?10 kids will have their chance to discover Coach Tressel?s charm and his fervent love for this great university during their personal interaction with Coach. They surely can WAIT their turn.

Now, back to Spencer.

My point was, last year we had offers to Simon and Whitting intermittently through the '07 season, if I remember right. I doubt that there will be any offers during the '08 season for the '10 recruiting class. That is why I believe there will be several offers out on September 1.
