Prep football: Michigan offers scholarship to Lexington star
By CURT CONRAD ? News Journal ? June 19, 2009
LEXINGTON -- A new contestant entered the Courtney Avery sweepstakes Thursday morning.
University of Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez threw his Maize and Blue hat into the ring, offering a scholarship to the blue-chipper from Lexington. Avery, who verbally committed to Stanford in April, can't sign a national letter of intent until February.
"I'm still (verbally) committed to Stanford," Avery said. "I spoke to (Stanford coach) Jim Harbaugh and I told him I still plan to take all five of my official visits and Michigan would be one of them.
"I'll go back and talk with my family and we'll decide what's best for me."
This is true. You know what they say, you can never have too many 5-10, 165 pounders!mh20;1486316; said:I think it was a good offer. They obviously liked what they saw at camp otherwise they wouldn't have offered, and he's a guy with potential that won't scare away the higher profile CB recruits they are going after.

MUBuck;1486358; said:They must have loved what they saw at the camp because Courtney has barely played DB in games. He's the QB and plays a handful of series at corner. I just think don't the potential nor the probability of panning out at DB is good enough for the offer.
Clearly my post went over your head. The point isn't whether he can play corner or not, it's that Michigan is loading up athletes that are all the same size and thinking they'll either play wide receiver or defensive back. Might want to think about some linebackers and linemen, games are still won and lost at the line of scrimmage chief.mh20;1486421; said:5-10 is good height for a CB first of all, and secondly he's only 16/17 years old, the 165 pounds means nothing. He still has plenty of time to put on some weight.
Outstanding contribution. Welcome aboard.chelsea.dale321;1696647; said:He is a cool player
