You've been here since 2007. Do I honestly need to explain it to you?

What recruits wear has proven time and again that it means little to nothing. Not to mention green and white aren't exactly exotic colors.

I would love to be wrong man, but this kid is headed to EL.

I guess he missed the UM sweatshirt on a certain player at an Army AA game not so long ago that caused a big buzz within his own fan base.

You seem seem really sure of this fact. I don't buy it. If he is such a lock, as you claim, then why doesn't he verbal? Probably because he is being smart and weighing all of his options before making a decision.

Love for a team growing up does not always make it the best fit for a player.

Agree with this sentiment.

I have seen to many proclaimed Michigan "locks" or life-long fans go the other route to ever buy into it. These are 17/18/19 year old kids we are talking about here.

Gholston is such a hot commodity right now, and every school in the country is coming after him hard. That is never a good thing if you are the supposed team to beat, because every team under the sun that is coming after him is only going to attack one team- the leader of the pack- in this case, MSU.

If he was such an MSU lock he would've already sealed the deal by now imo. People use that term "lock" way too frequently in recruiting. The truth of the matter, is that there are very few locks in recruiting.

I put "Lock" in quotes because I don't believe in recruiting locks. In Mr.Gholstons case there is too much in MSU corner, I have a tough time seeing him going elsewhere. Hopefully he shocks me and chooses USC!

MSU gets prospects in town for camp
Nationally ranked Gholston among recruits expected
Joe Rexrode ? [email protected] ? June 12, 2009

In case anyone needed a reminder of the wackiness that recruiting and the Internet can create together, William Gholston helped provide one.

At his recent prom, the Detroit Southeastern junior defensive end - the most coveted 2010 player in the state - wore a white tuxedo with a green vest and tie. He topped off the ensemble with an MSU hat.

Photos got to the message boards and sent the recruiting junkies into keyboard conniptions. But Gholston says he was just playing off his girlfriend's green dress, not sending a message about his college of choice.

"I mean, naw, I was just trying to match all green and I figured I'd throw the hat on," he said. "I apologize if people took it the wrong way."

Gholston is the top prize in Michigan in 2010 according to the recruiting services, and his list of offers backs up that assertion. He has them from Southern Cal, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU and just about everyone else in the sport's upper echelon.

The 6-foot-7, 240-pound athlete has drawn comparisons to his cousin, Vernon Gholston, a former Ohio State star and 2008 first-round pick of the New York Jets.

"Physically, the sky's the limit," said Ladky, who also said Gholston's defensive end skills are "raw."

"He's very fast, very strong, very agile," Southeastern coach Donshell English said. "Everything you look for. He's even-keeled, doesn't let things bother or affect him too much. He's a down-to-earth kid and a real leader."

English also said Gholston "likes MSU and loves the coaching staff a lot."

"The coaches know how comfortable I am with them," Gholston said. "I'm very comfortable with them."

Ladky covered Gholston and other prospects at Illinois' camp last weekend, and when he asked Gholston to name his favorite schools, "Michigan State" was the first he mentioned.

But he'll be exploring his options fully. English said he doesn't expect Gholston to make a choice until after his senior season.

Scout$--Gholston Breaks it Down

William says he has been in contact with Vernon Gholston lately but his cousin is not trying to influence him to go to tOSU. He says he does not have any favorites and wants to visit as many schools as possible before deciding.

I don't know the kid, but this suggests to me (if you have read my previous post) that he has a good head on his shoulders. Very good decision on his part, IMO, to really get out there and look around at his options. Kudos to William!!

A Spartan and a Skunkbear finally agree on something.

Gholston will commit to MSU, he is just playing out the process and at this point is planning on taking his visits.

Don't minimize the prom photos despite what Gholston says. Do you see players go out of their way to do something like that with no intention of attending the school?

I really think he will verbal by August. He knows his verbal will build a little momentum for the rest of the class. MSU is in a great position with him right now, it's a matter of pushing the right buttons to put an end to his recruitment and lock him up.

No they don't. Tell me an recruit that wore um, PSU, etc. gear to his prom, then verballed to OSU or some other school?

Most players are respectful of the process and get to know coaches very well and respect them, they aren't going to pull stunts like that to mislead those who call and sit in their living rooms every chance they get who they become friends with throughout the recruiting process.

There are a fewtools that float around and do this crap, but they are the exception, not the rule.
