'10 FL LB Deon Rogers (Louisville Verbal)

Got a chance to watch Deon, Jeff Luc, and the rest of the Titans play last night, and I have to say that I was not that impressed with Deon or Jeff.

Deon is definitely a great athlete, but he's very skinny right now. Rail thin would be an accurate statement. He did flash his speed a couple of times by chasing down some RB's from behind, but he was pretty much non-existent and his name was not called very often.

Jeff Luc is an absolutely AMAZING looking physical specimen, looks like an NFL player on a high school field. His listed height/weight of 6'1, 240 is probably right on the money. He is jacked and ripped beyond ripped. However, he probably did even less than Deon.

The kid from Treasure Coast that impressed me the most was their QB and WR. The QB is only a sophomore and he's probably only 5'10/5'11, but he's lighting quick, very good speed, and he's got a very strong arm- can make all of the throws. In fact, he probably throws the ball too hard right now and he overthrew quite a few passes. If QB doesn't work out for him he's definitely a good enough athlete to play WR or CB.

The best player on the field last night though was the WR, #4. The kid was really just unbelievable. He's a tall kid too, looked to be 6'1/6'2, he had some nice size to him. Treasure Coast was only up 6-3 for most of the game until that kid went off late in the 2nd half and got Treasure Coast 2 TD's to pull ahead 20-3. He showed off his speed and quickness by taking a short little screen 81 yards to the house for a TD. It was an incredible play, don't know if I can do it justice trying to describe it.

His 2nd TD catch was about 25-30 yards, but it was just as impressive if not more impressive than his 1st TD catch. The ball was poorly thrown on a fade route and the kid was double covered, had a CB behind him and a safety in front of him, he timed his jump perfectly, went up and snatched the ball at the highest point with his hands, and he sandwiched as the CB hit him from behind and the safety absolutely destroyed him with a monstrous hit, but the kid still held onto the ball for the score.

I mean it was a nasty hit, a kill shot, but the kid showed incredible toughness and willingness to take a hit. The hit was pretty bad, and the kid tried to get up but fell right back down to the ground and had to be helped off the field. Luckily it wasn't anything too serious, as he was back in the game a couple of series later.

Rogers, Luc among all-star prospects visiting UGA
November 9, 2009, by Chip Towers

Georgia commitment Deon Rogers will be among an all-star cast of prospects making official visits with the Bulldogs this coming weekend and he confirmed that his five-star teammate is coming with him.

Jeff Luc, a 6-foot-1, 240-pound linebacker at Treasure Coast High in Port St. Lucie, Fla., will be traveling to Athens with Rogers. Luc (pronouced Luck) is rated as a five-star prospect and the No. 1 middle linebacker in America by Scout.com. He is being pursued by virtually every premier program in the country, including the three major programs in his home state. Long considered a lock for the Florida Gators, he has visited Tennessee and Southern Cal and plans to take an official trip to LSU before making a final decision. He will be an early enrollee in college.

Rogers is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound, three-star linebacker who committed to Georgia back in June. He is doing what he can to get Luc to follow him.

?Of course I want him to go to college with me,? Rogers said Sunday evening. ?We?ve talked about it and that?d be great. But I?m going to support him no matter what he decides to do. If he likes Georgia and it feels like home there, that?s where he?ll go. If not that?s fine, too.?

Luc did not return messages Sunday but told me last month that his interest in playing for the Bulldogs was genuine.

Meanwhile, Georgia probably feels like it has some work left to do with Rogers. The three-star prospect visited Ohio State the weekend of Oct. 24 and reportedly wants to make a trip to LSU. But Rogers insists he is still a Bulldog.

?Nothing has changed,? he said. ?I?m still committed. I just wanted to take a couple of trips and see some different places.?

Georgia?s commitments anxiously await hire
January 11, 2010, by Chip Towers

?Yes, I?m still committed to Georgia,? Port St. Lucie linebacker Deon Rogers said Monday.?I?m just waiting to see who?s going to be coordinator and linebackers coach.?
I posed a rhetorical question to Rogers. What would he do if Georgia?s coaching situation remained unresolved all the way the up to national signing day (Feb. 3)?

?Umm. I don?t know,? Rogers said. ?That?s a good question; that?s a real good question. I?m not sure to tell you the truth. I like Georgia the most so that?d be tough.?

Rogers said he does have a backup plan to declined to specify exactly what that is. ?I?d rather keep that to myself,? he said.

More of the same as the last piece... Had a previous relationship with Strong and he's impressed by the staff he's assembled in Louisville... Rogers will have a final decision sometime after his last visit to Mississippi St. on 1/29...

UGA commit Deon Rogers feels better after coaches visit
12:53 pm January 19, 2010, by Chip Towers

...
"It went real well," said Rogers, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker from Treasure Coast High School. "It took a lot of stress off my shoulders. Now I'm ready."

So what'd they talk about?

"We talked about the new defensive coordinator," Rogers said. "They told me that he's a good man, the he has a lot of experience and is a really good coach. They told me about the 3-4 [defense] and what that would mean for me. They told me I'd be an outside linebacker."

A short time later Rogers was on the phone with Grantham. "He was a nice guy. Said he'd been hearing good things about me," Rogers said.

Grantham, who was hired away from the Dallas Cowboys last week, will be Rogers' position coach at Georgia. "It shocked me in a good way," said Rogers. "I didn't expect them to get an NFL coach, much less a guy from the Cowboys."

LB Deon Rogers still leaning Georgia, but two other schools in play
by Jason Lieser
January 21st, 2010 at 10:21 am

Treasure Coast outside linebacker Deon Rogers was angry when Georgia fired assistant John Jancek, the man who recruited Rogers, but the Bulldogs? staff is working to soothe those feelings.

Rogers (6-3, 205, 4.48, No. 12 on The Big Board) committed to Georgia last summer, but continued to pull in offers from many schools.

?I?m still committed to Georgia,? Rogers said. ?I?m keeping my options open, but I?m still committed. With what happened with the coaches, it messed everything around. I was a little disappointed because (Jancek) recruited me and I had a relationship with him. I was ready for him to coach me at Georgia. I was disappointed and shocked, but they have a new linebackers coach now and I?m trying to build a relationship with him.?
Georgia coach Mark Richt, a former Boca Raton quarterback, hired Dallas Cowboys defensive line coach Tood Grantham as his new defensive coordinator this month. Grantham said he also will serve as the team?s linebackers coach.

Rogers visited Georgia and Ohio State during the season. He went to Louisville last weekend and Cincinnati the week before. He tentatively scheduled a visit to Mississippi State for the last weekend of the month, but said he is not sure if he actually will go.

At this point, Rogers still thinks he will end up at Georgia but is strongly considering bids from Louisville and Ohio State.
