'10 CA QB Nick Montana (Washington Signee; transfer to Tulane)

I think it says we were the first school he visited.

Call me cynical, but if Nick Montana matriculates at tOSU I will eat my hat. Not gonna happen.

That's the feeling I get. Something just seems off about this situation right now. It sucks that Gardner is going to scUM. Hopefully Kenny Guiton steps up and has a great career. We may need him.

Agreed, however we just started spring and NLOID is 10+ months away. Certainly there are other QB prospects the coaching staff could get in contact with by summer and I do believe Montana is suposed to decide soon right? That's plenty of time to come up with a backup prospect if Montana goes else where. Aren't summer camps supposed to be a key evaluation for the staff to get a look at recruits?

I dunno, it just seems that there is such a rush rush in regards to recruiting this year. I'd rather the staff took there time in evaluating recruits because I think this early verbal stuff could really back fire on college teams.

I think there is a rush on the part of some fans and that it is only going to get worse as technology and media coverage increase on visits, camps, etc.

OSU has had 2 Top 5 classes in a row and have gotten some formidable players from Florida, Georgia and Texas along with the usuall suspects in the Midwest.

There is certainly a lot that OSU fans can critique about our program but it is my contention that recruiting has proven to be a topic that people should be more patient about.

I sure as heck don't see the staff "rushing" into anything.

They've only offered, what 19 or 20 kids so far - so anyone offered at this point is the cream of the crop and not a "risk" recruit or "stretch" recruit that they might be taking and missing out on a late bloomer later on.

Any early verbals we get right now are from kids the staff really really wants - bad.

After the summer is over, I think we'll all know for sure where we stand recruiting-wise, and you will certainly see more offers as needed then.

I would love to see many of our current targets commit before their senior season starts. That allows the staff to figure out who they need to go after among the guys who they evaluated highly during camps and so forth.

Hopefully Montana decides soon and for the good guys...I really like Godfrey, but the offer worries me a tad. I know it is early but QB's are deciding early lately, excluding Pryor. On top of that, there is slim pickins' at QB this year. A polished QB in this class is a must, regardless if we land 19 other 5 stars that aren't QB's...positions of need can't be overlooked. With that said, I fully trust the staff here.

I just can't see tOSU starting a 5'10" 160lb - ish QB....Godfrey would make a nice CB or WR...

He wouldn't start at that weight. Height is nice, but not necessary. Troy Smith showed us that.

Godfrey is extremely talented at the QB position if he's getting some of the (early) offers he's getting to play QB. I'm going to go ahead and assume that the staff knows what they're doing.

Hopefully there's nothing to worry about in regards to Montana, but it kind of looks like there's something..

Shurburtt: Breaking down the QBs in 2010 UA All-America game - ESPN

Nick Montana, 6-2, 177, Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian

Tom Luginbill on Montana: Considering the lineage, Nick Montana possesses so many of the same physical traits his dad had -- smooth delivery, slender build with a high metabolism and a knack for moving the chains with a calming demeanor, yet is also a fierce competitor. Has a lot of physical development yet to do and that will come in time, but we feel he has intangibles to lead.

Recruiting Buzz: Montana has been taking unofficial visits to a number of schools and most recently swung South to see Georgia and Alabama. There is lots of speculation about Notre Dame and Ohio State, but Montana and his family are being very deliberate and thorough about the process and he's not narrowed anything down as of yet.
