Nick Montana, son of NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana, will visit Alabama and Georgia this weekend. The 6-foot-2, 177-pound quarterback is scheduled to be at Alabama on Friday, and then tour Georgia on Saturday.
Montana claims no favorites and says his famous father?s ties to Notre Dame will not impact his college decision, according to TotalUGA.com. Montana also says distance won?t affect his recruiting process, which gives Georgia a slimmer of hope.
?The feeling of going away from home kind of intrigues me,? Montana told the website. ?I think it would be fun to go away, but I?m just going to go wherever the best fit is for me.?
Montana is one of six QBs offered by Georgia, including Blake Bell of Witchita, Kan., and Gainesville High?s Blake Sims. Montana sports offers from South Carolina, Stanford, LSU, Ohio State, Florida State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, Alabama, and Arizona.
Montana is one of three celebrity sons that play at California?s Oaks Christian High, along with the offspring of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky and Hollywood actor Will Smith.

QB Nick Montana talks about UGA, Alabama, Southern Cal and Tennessee
March 27, 2009, by Michael Carvell

Nick Montana, son of NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana, says he is serious about Georgia. He told the AJC he wouldn?t be flying halfway across the country if he wasn?t.

The 6-foot-2, 177-pound Montana is one of the nation?s top college prospects and plays football at California?s Oaks Christian High. Montana and his legendary father toured the campuses of Alabama and Georgia this weekend.

He has a dozen scholarship offers, including South Carolina, Stanford, LSU, Ohio State, Florida State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, Alabama, and Arizona. He also has serious interest from Tennessee, Southern Cal, and Oklahoma, among others.

Montana spoke with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the recruiting process:

Q. How was your visit to Alabama? A. It went really well. We had a packed day full of meetings. They talked a lot about academics, and we got to look around campus and see the dorms. We met with Nick Saban twice and got a lot of questions answered. He?s a great guy, and we enjoyed talking with him.

Q. What do you like about Georgia? A. They have great coaches. I?ve heard a lot of great things about Georgia?s academics and business school. I?m looking forward to learning more about the business school, and watching Georgia play on TV next year.

Q. What appeals to you about Georgia football? A. Their style of offense. Matthew Stafford played at Georgia, and he has got a great chance to be one of the first players taken in the NFL draft. If Georgia is turning out first-round draft picks like that at quarterback, then I think anyone would take a close look at Georgia. They just put a lot of guys in the league. I also like that Georgia wins. They were ranked No. 1 at one point last year.

Hall of Famer Joe Montana, son drop in on UA practice
By Christopher Walsh Sports Writer

bilde

(Dan Lopez/ The Tuscaloosa News) NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, above, watches the University of Alabama football team practice with his son, Nick, at the UA practice facility on Friday.

TUSCALOOSA | It was not just another day, nor just another spring practice for the University of Alabama football team.

Not only was it intense, with approximately 1,200 coaches encircling the Thomas-Drew practice fields as part of the annual coaching clinic, but square in the middle at the 50-yard line were two NFL Pro Football Hall of Famers.

Baltimore Ravens Ozzie Newsome, a former All-American for the Crimson Tide, looked right at home, but the guy standing next to him wearing blue jeans and a gray T-shirt took a little getting used to.

NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana picked quite a day to drop by with his son, Nick, for a recruiting visit, making Friday anything but ordinary.

?This is the first time, I think, in 20 years that I?ll have an opportunity to watch an Alabama football practice,? said Newsome, a guest speaker at the clinic. ?It was caused by my schedule in Cleveland and Baltimore. I think I?ve seen Alabama play maybe five times since I graduated in 1978.

?This is a fun day for me.?

QB Nick Montana says that UGA is ?up there? among college choices
March 28, 2009, by Michael Carvell

There was NFL royalty at Georgia on Saturday.

Joe Montana, the three-time Super Bowl MVP, accompanied his son, Nick Montana, on a recruiting trip to UGA. Nick is one of the nation?s top quarterback prospects and has a dozen offers, including Georgia.

Everywhere the Montanas went in Athens, Ga., the NFL Hall of Famer was recognized. ?That?s the way it always is. People notice my dad. That was nice. I love my dad. He?s my role model and inspiration.?

Nick and his parents were given the royal treatment at Georgia. Said Nick, ?My interest is growing with each trip I take to college campuses. Every time I visit a school, I get to compare it with other schools I?ve visited. I?m not ready to talk about early favorites and anything like that, but Georgia will be up there.?

Montana said he and his legendary father met with Georgia coach Mark Richt for around 30 minutes. ?We learned a lot about [Richt] and the spiritual development, how he develops the players in the football program to be better men. That made a huge impression on me and my parents.?

What was Montana?s biggest surprise about Georgia? It was nothing like he perceived to be. ?I was expecting Georgia to be out in the middle of nowhere, like the boonies. But there was actually a lot of stuff to do in the city. The town was lively. Another important thing were the people. I love the people. Everybody is kind, everybody is nice. They all want you to sign with Georgia.?

Hmm. I haven't heard anything about OSU in awhile nor any indication of where we stand.

I get the impression that OSU has set the bar for Nick and he / his family are just doing their due diligence to make sure its the right choice for him. We know this is how JT operates, encouraging recruits to make sure they truly want to be Buckeyes for their collegiate career.

This is the kid I want most in the class right now. Joyner is amazing and I really want him on board (and think he the BEST of the players we're recruiting) but we only have 3 scholarship QB's and after Pryor we don't have one that has the true potential to be special in my opinion. Montana would look great in Scarlet and Grey. Picture it in your head; it just seems to be a perfect fit.

I think Ohio State's recruiting hasn't really taken shape yet this year. We only have offers out to a few guys it seems. I'm not quite sure out of who we've been talking about a lot who should get an offer in the future.

Anyways, quarterback is a huge need for us this year and getting Montana could get this class rolling. And he is a true headliner for the class.
