10-2 and a BCS win still possible

Everyone overlooks the fact that we wont face a defense close to as good as PSU's defense last night. They are head and shoulders above everyone else that we will face for the remainder of the season. Our offense did look shitty, but give their defense some credit...

Penn State

I hate to say this but I think I'm being honest. We really should have won the Texas game and I felt bad about it for a long time afterwards. However, I really have to give Penn State a break. They played hard and have a damned good defense and they will probably win the rest of their games. Last night it hurt to lose, and yes we could have won that game except for the turnovers, but Penn State wanted it more than we did, so good luck to them for the rest of the year. I think we can win the rest of our games and still get a good bowl game.

There's absolutely no reason we can't and shouldn't win out...at the beginning of they year the two toughest games seemed to be Texas and either PSU or Michigan...now that Michigan has shown what they can't do, we should run all over the last 6 teams we play. Will that land us in a BCS game? It just might....

My bet is everybody on this thread thought we would win out last week at this time, as well. I'll give PSU credit, and I honestly was more worried about that game than any other on our schedule, including Texas. Still, it is DAMN frustrating to watch this offense struggle to score 10 points. And it is worrisome, at least to me, because we play a couple of offenses that are a lot better than PSU. If MSU or Northwestern or Minnesota can score even a little against our D, all it takes is a turnover or two for them to win.

Do we have the potential to win out? Yes.

Did we have the potential to win every game and go undefeated this year? Yes.

Will we win out? I don't know. I think we should...but if the offense doesn't come around, I kind of doubt it. I understand the PSU has a better D than any of our remaining opponents. But many of our remaining opponents have a better O. Some of this is still frustration talking, but if we want a BCS bowl berth, we MUST impress people, and our offense MUST get a lot better.

The offense doesn't even need to come around for us to win out. We don't play another team that has a defense worth sneezing at. The 2 defensive teams we played beat us because our O can't get it done. The D plays lights out and will win us close games for the rest of the year.

I'll be the biggest michigan fan this week. Fuck penn state. 2 losses for them puts us in the BCS.

Yes! This team should win out and given on the whittling out process, earn a BCS bowl bid. Most important, Half of the season has ended and makes every gameday that much more enjoyable. Unlike the Cooper era, the culmination boils down to the final game & the chance beat Michigan!
Being a Buckeye has always included more than W's & L's. That said, enjoy this D as long as possible because the season ends far to soon & these Bucks are truly special!

Taking a look at the rest of our schedule, I see no reason why we can't, and shouldn't, run the table:

I totally agree. There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to run the table, on paper. However, I also know that almost everyone on this site (myself included), thought that we would beat PSU, even if we thought it would be a close game. Not to sound negative b/c as I said before, I think we're better than any of our remaining opponents; yet, I'm not as optimistic after our first five games of the season.

we have the talent but I don't know if our defense can hold msu and nw to 14 points or less.

Take a look at what our first-team defense has done:

Miami: 0 points (their two TDs came against primarily backups)
Texas: 23 points (only 13 over 3+ quarters once we adjusted)
SDSU: 7 points (fluke play on first play of game...99 total yards after that)
Iowa: 6 points (29 yards total offense through the first 44 minutes of play)
PSU: 17 points (really should only count 10, with the second TD being a gift)

In my mind, our first team has given up 46 earned points to the opposition (I'm throwing out the 1-yard TD "drive" by PSU) in five games, with 23 being against one of the best, if not the best, offenses in the country. Quick math says that in the other four games, first-stringers have given up but 23 earned points (under 6 ppg), and only 13 points in the three home games other than Texas.

If you thought the defense was fired up for the Iowa game, they'll be even more fired up against Michigan State after playing their asses off at Crappy Valley only to be denied the win. Michigan State relys more on the rush that does Iowa, so shutting down their running game will have even more of an effect that it did with Iowa. And if there's one defense that can stuff MSU's running game, it's ours. Stanton isn't much better of a scrambler than Tate, and keep in mind what we did to him. If you have forgotten, go back and watch the clips of the Iowa game I provided.

I know I posted something similar a few weeks ago but to me this still rings true.
Did we lose this past weekend? yes.
Did we play the perfect game? no.
Did the lose sting quite a bit? yes.
But I can almost guarentee that every single one of those players that were in that stadium felt the hurt even more. They had a long ride home to stew and think about what they may have been able to do different, to think about how one bounce could have made the difference in the game.

And to all my buckeye fan brothers and sisters, it's Monday, it is time to put behind us the should have and could haves of that cold bitter saturday night. Instead we need to be looking ahead. Looking ahead as to how loud are you going to cheer this weekend when those kids run into Ohio Stadium. How is the rush going to fill your lungs as you breath in the air. How is it going to feel as the sounds of The fight song resonate in your ears. What are you going to do as 100,000 plus in the stadium and the millions watching around the world once again unite into once voice screaming O-H-I-O. We are Ohio State, we don't give up.....ever. What do we do? We scream a little louder, We drink a little more, and we step up and show the nation and show the world that we are the bucks and you can never keep us down.

So I expect every single person here to be cheering from their seats in their seats from the stadium, or the tailgate that you attended, or from the lazy-boy in your living room. By noon saturday your adrenaline better be pumping, your voice working at full capacity, as we take our step to taking what we know we deserve and that is the shot at the bcs, to represent the big ten, and show the world you can't keep the Buckeyes down.

GO BUCKS!!!!

I agree with Mili's assessment. I agree that Ohio State SHOULD win the rest of their games. But, not to be a downer, I think Ohio State SHOULD have beaten both Texas and Penn State. (They had Texas on the ropes late in the game, and I don't think Penn State is as good as Ohio State made them look.) As with any team in any sport, SHOULD win games does not equate to actually winning games.

All that said, I think Ohio State WILL win their remaining games, and finish 7-1, 9-2.

BCS bowl? That's another story. They need Penn State to lose at least once, preferably twice. I don't know that that's going to happen. I think that Penn State is the 2nd best team in the Big Ten.
