Game Thread #1 tOSU at Illinois, Sat. Oct. 11th, 12 pm ET, FOX

It was really good seeing Jason Moore get playing time yesterday against Illinois. Hoping he is over the injury bug and can be a solid contributor the remainder of the season.

I find it interesting that we have two five stars on the DL (Houston / Moore) that haven't yet made the impact we had anticipated.

It was nice seeing him out there. With Smith Jr doing a solid job and Ty getting better every week, it seems like they're building some solid depth on the interior DL. Gonna need it going forward.

How is illegal touching a loss of down?

They made us punt on 3rd down!

Penalty made it 1st and 15. Bo ran for 11 and the qtr ended.

The overrule was on 2nd and 4, not 3rd and 4. How could nobody fix that?
To clarify what happened at the end of the first quarter:

Smith was lined up outside with a foot about 2 feet behind the ball, which is considered ‘on the line’. Klare was the TE on the line also on the left side, but since he was ’covered up’ by a WR he was ineligible. When he caught the pass, it’s considered illegal touching which is 5 yards AND loss of down, making it 2nd and 15. That seems overly punitive since it was an error in formation, but it is the rule.

So the refs got it right, it was third down at the start of the second quarter when the replay took away Smith’s catch on the sideline.

There was oddly a large amount of issues with Jeremiah and formations against Illinois. There were (4) plays that I can recall where confusion created weird situations.

There was the play where he lined up in backfield and Sayin tried delivering ball to him out of the backfield. It looked like they had a screen set-up for him but he wasn’t looking for the ball. Seems he didn’t expect to be thrown ball.

He had the penalty with Klare where he had lined up incorrectly negating the play and us being assessed a penalty.

Towards the end of the first half he nearly got a penalty bc he couldn’t decide which leg should be the front versus back…..he switched it like 4 times and technically wasn’t “set” at the snap but refs didn’t call it…that one was odd. Clearly some confusion on how he was supposed to be aligned.

The last one, he went into motion and Sayin had to move him back…maybe there was an audible called but to me it looked like Jeremiah had wrong play.

Jeremiah is obviously a stud, and maybe it’s nitpicking…. I just haven’t seen that much confusion around him before. The fact we won so easily covers a lot of that up and they’ll get a chance to clean it up going forward, but I hope things look a lot cleaner going forward.

It looked like he hadn’t practiced all week. I forget did he get dinged against Minnie.

1. QB Julian Sayin (86.0)

A pattern has developed for the highest-graded Buckeye. Sayin was in the top spot last week, and for the third time this season, the Buckeye with the best grade has been in that spot for back-to-back weeks. Sayin's overall offensive grade of 86 and passing grade of 84 against Illinois were the second-best in the Big Ten. With that, his offensive (90.5) and passing (91.0) grades for the season are the highest among all starting conference quarterbacks.

2. DT Kayden McDonald (85.5)

McDonald returns to the top three for the first time since his team-best Week 2 performance against Grambling State. His overall defensive grade of 85.5 was the highest among all Big Ten defensive tackles, and his score of 93.5 against the run was best in the conference and third-highest in the nation.

3. DE Caden Curry (79.0)

Curry filled up the boxes on the stat sheet against Illinois with two tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, a fumble recovery and a quarterback hit. His grades pass rushing (81.8) and tackling (75.5) were the best among Ohio State defensive linemen.
