Game Thread #1 tOSU at Illinois, Sat. Oct. 11th, 12 pm ET, FOX

Turnovers were the major difference in today's game.
Still struggling with red zone offense
Not sure why MP did not dial up more blitzes
Really glad to see KJ at full go today
Iggy returned to some bad habits
Julian seemed a bit off today but did well overall
CJ was a solid contributor in today's game
Penalties continue to be a problem

Just sayin': All true and they can continue to work in those "problem items" this week in practice; however, we still won the game and that is the most important thing about the game today.

Anyone know what the best thing about being 6-0 is?

Just sayin': It looks like a fairly new Illibuck. I wondered what happens to the old Illibucks...
  • What happens to the retired turtles: The fate of the retired trophies varies. For instance, Illibuck IX is on display in the Ohio Union at Ohio State University. Other retired trophies are likely held in the universities' archives or by the student honorary societies responsible for the tradition, Bucket and Dipper (Ohio State) and Atius-Sachem (Illinois).
  • Other incidents: At least one wooden Illibuck was stolen by Illinois students in 1945, though its ultimate fate is unknown.

Few thoughts.

First the good.

1. Offensive line continues to give Sayin time and consistently moved the pile on short situations. They’re a tough group.

2. The LBs played very well. Pierce did really well, Reese was still a problem, and Sonny was solid as always.

3. The defense really did a great job stopping the run and forcing turnovers. Three turnovers were a big reason why we got the win.

The not so great.

1. Penalties were an issue all game. Davison had trouble today and likely could’ve had a few more against him too.

2. The pace of play and lack of aggression game plan for both sides was a bit confusing. Hard to argue with a 18 point win but the offense plays so damn slow. The defense just wasn’t aggressive really at all. Credit to Illinois for shutting down our 4 man pressure. Their QB had all day to throw.

3. Running game. I think the heavy packages hurts the offense. This has been a critique of mine for a while of Day. We tend to go heavy when we want to run the ball but imo things are more difficult running into stacked boxes.

All this to say that we won by more than 2 scores and we likely played our worst game of the year. Let the foot off the gas especially and yet still won comfortably. I have to mention something though and hopefully it’s taken the correct way. But Brandon Innis is not helping this offense right now. He’s not creating problems for the defense and he’s not taking pressure off 4 and 17. The lack of rotation continues to be maddening at the WR position. Clearly they know what they’re doing there but how is there no desire to see what Graham can do? If this offense can develop a third option at WR that’s when we become a different offense.

Feels like this was a game they knew they were gonna win easily regardless so they figured no need to stress or press too much. That's exactly what it looked like
