  • The latest NCAA statistics have us as the #1 rush defense in the country at less than 50 yards per game (49.4). The #2 team is LSU at 60.3 ypg and #3 is USC with 68.2 ypg. But the biggest measure is yards per carry, and this is where we blow everyone away: We give up 1.53 ypc, while the next best team (USC) gives up over a half yard more per carry (2.05 ypc). Unreal. Also, only three other teams have given up fewer rushing TDs than us (LSU and Georgia with 2 each, and Iowa with 3).

To me there is nothing more frustrating than watching a team run the ball up and down the field at will. It was difficult to watch Chris Perry against the scUM St. defense a couple weeks ago. There inability to stop him cost them the game. We won't have that problem. Our ability to make opposing offenses one dimensional will keep us in the game against anyone. Our D-line is the MVP of our team.

Our D is good, and I would assume we rank highly when looking at field position, and special team stats... A great D will at least keep you in EVERY game, you might lose but you will at least be in the hunt... that has been true for all games over the last two years... Thanks Coach D!!!

I had wondered in the past about that (yds per rush) but was too lazy to look it up. That is just amazing. I think it will really pay dividens in THE GAME too, Navarre will not be able to beat us without a running game.

It makes me smile to think of the 3 in a row that might be, one of my colleagues at work is a SCum fan and I will relish the opportunity to do 2 things

    1. Take his $$ on Monday the 24th

    2. After the $$ is firmaly in wallet... dancing around like a complete idiot singing (in my aweful singing voice)

Once.... Twice.... Three times for Lloyd Carr He's a loser.....

I'm sure the pass happy O's we've faced earlier have helped that average a bit, but that's still VERY impressive. Less than 50 per game? What is really impressive to me is our speed on D. Quite often this year I've seen an opposing RB heading to the LOS with a gap and what appears to be a 4-6 yard gain. Then several scarlet and gray flashes appear and BAM! Very intense. It must be frustrating for a RB also. Seeing a nice little gain turn into nothing or even a loss of yardage that quickly and that frequently. Heck, even our linemen are running down RBs and QBs from behind. Didn't Darion Scott (a pretty big boy) chase down Mills from behind? Keep on packing the lunch pail and coming to play boys!

GregoryLee... I've personalized the lyrics for your "friend"... now you can go buy the Karaoke CD and make it professional:

    Thanks for the dimes
    That you’ve given me
The replays are all in my mind
    And now that we’ve come
To the end of the Navarre years
    There’s something
    I must say out loud
    You’re once, twice
    Three times a loser!
    Yes you’re once twice
    Three times a loser...

    and Michigan still sucks!

    As Navarre moves on
and the next guy comes in
It won't matter who you start
He'll suck too... you'll hold too...
We'll hurt you... you need to...
Realize it's Carr and not just Navarre!
    'Cause you’re once twice
    Three times a loser...
    and Michigan still sucks...

    Michigan still sucks!

BTW... 1.5 YPC is crazy good!!! A nyone know what it was last year? Now if we could just stop the 3rd and 7 pass that comes up after the two run-stuffs we'd be blowing teams out (is 24-0 a blow out?) every week. The games were it all (run and pass D) clicks it's simply amazing to watch.

According to the ESPN box score, MSU had a solid 5 yards rushing with a stunning .3 yards per attempt.

It truly is and was the Smoker Show as far as the MSU offense, but 5 total yards is amazing. Great effort by the defense.

If ESPN's box score of MSU rushing stats of 5 yards on 17 carries is accurate, then OSU's rushing defense has given up 450 yards on 307 carries in 10 games, which is 1.47 ypc and 45.0 ypg.

The superstitious could say comments in this thread jinxed the Buckeyes. By the end of the regular season their defense surrendered 2.0 yards per carry, and 62.3 yards per game. Not shabby by any means, but quite a letdown after the first eight games.

Yes, I'm guilty of jinxing them too.
