I watched a game a couple years ago where Corso paid a visit to the broadcast booth. I think Herbie was doing color. I can't remember the teams, unfortunately. He was only there for a few minutes and made the situation perfectly clear in just two or three sentences.Say what you will, but were it the case that he never appeared on screen again, do you really think that anyone would miss him? Has he honestly added incremental insight to any broadcast he’s been a part of in the past ten years?
Homer or not, the guy is nothing more than a vapid body in front of a camera. In comparison, were things like Urban Analysis as empty of insight, do you think that would fly?
Seriously, all history aside, give us some credit in being able to recognize him for what he is — a hyperbole-filled windbag.
Something to the effect of, "They need to do this and that because of the defense the other team is playing..." It wasn't just basic "develop the run to open the pass," it was some complex high-level analysis that you never hear from Danielson or Herbie. The contrast was profound. I was shocked; maybe Corso is a lot more lucid than they make him seem on Gameday. It was a nice switch from the typical garbage.
