Next weds night at 9 pm the curtain goes up on the start of the real basketball season. No more softies , no more creampuffs. It is hardball time, it's knock down drag out scuff your knees BB time.
We are going to play the big boys and they are bullies. They won't take any prisoners. We are going to have to stand up and slap them in the face and then push back when they try to push us.
We have the talent, the desire and the coach. Do we have the mettle to go into their house and whip them?
I say YES!

With Florida's loss last night, what are the chances we move to #1 if we beat UNC?

If we beat UNC, Ohio State SHOULD be the #1 team in the nation... Florida finally had their first test and couldn't finish them off, why should they be #1... The only team that will be close to the top is UCLA, they had a great MAUI Invitational.

GO BUCKS!!!

Nice post Booster. It will be a slugfest.
I find it hard to think of the Bucks being ranked #1 if they beat NC on weds.
I don't actually think we would be. They would have to earn it every game this year

I can't wait to see how our see boys match up. I think these young guys will come out with a chip on their shoulder trying to prove to the country that they are for real. It's gonna be a matchup of 5star recruits all trying to show that they are the best. If we beat them we should definitely be #1 IMO. That ranking would be by default though because FLA lost. THey are the best team in the country. If we shoot the ball the way we have been this is a very winnable game.

Alum, that picture of Carrie is amazing. I love that chic.

I find it hard to think of us as n01 even if we beat NC, WE would be under tremendous pressure for a young team. The Bucks would have to earn it every game.

I think that's a good thing though. We're not going to be under the radar come tourney time so we might as well get used to the spotlight now. It doesn't get much bigger than a top 5 match-up in Chapel Hill.

If we can get a win at N.C. we deserve to be #1, it's actually pretty simple. On the other hand..........winning the game without a dominant big man won't be simple by any means.

I expect the Bucks to live and die by the 3 on Wednesday.

I will say it again......I think we are better on the perimeter than UNC. The key to the game will be to control the inside and stay close on the boards, if we can do that.....I like our chances.
correct about the perimeter. It's the inside that scares me. I think that's going to be a "hold them down" thing.
I like our chances.

Wow. I sure hope I am eating crow after the game, but so far we have played nobody and proven nothing. We have several great athletes, but Twigs and Harris have yet to prove they can hold their own against talented players. Six good players do not beat NC. We are very young and are still making a lot of defensive mistakes.

Not only is NC a bit better than our recent competition, but Roy Williams can coach. This will be our first game on the road and our first game where the opposing coach has a solid game plan and the players to execute it. Their top four scorers are hitting over 50% from the field AFTER games against Gonzaga and Tennessee. And we aren't just playing on the road - we are playing at NC on national tv. Our Frosh have never played in front of anything like this crowd.

If we stay within a dozen I will be quite impressed. If we lose by 20 it wont change my view that this will be a top 5 team by seasons end. I just don't think we are there yet by a long shot.

Hope I am wrong.

i think we share the same view, oh8ch. as i stated before, unc's size and ability inside should be more than our team can bear. probably surprising to many, i don't think that hansbrough is an exceptionally talented player. sure, he's a fine player, but i think that he scores almost solely due to hustle and court awareness. he plays short and can be handled by a tall, physical player. wright and the tandem of wright and hansbrough will be the hardest for our players to handle.

if we are able to double-down effectively, if unc's perimeter play is poor, and if osu's perimeter play is potent (especially the 3) and mostly mistake free; then i see our chances as being approximately 50/50. what still has not been factored in is playing on the road, playing in a terribly hostile environment, and being seen on national television for the first time.

what ohio state appears to have a clear advantage at is 3-point shooting. i see a player like ivan as being vital to our success. his size and his outside ability will be necessary for victory. if we can get the 3-point shot to a clip of about 45-50% of 20+ attempts for the team, a close game if not a victory is well within reach.

moreover, if twiggy and/or hunter get into foul trouble... forget about it. the tar heels are much deeper than the bucks, and they have the post players to punish us. the dean dome has some mighty fine homecooking for its team. i can very easily see twiggy and hunter getting a quick three in the first half. we'll see.

as oh8ch said, if the team can stay within 12 points, i'll be impressed. we can guarantee that there wouldn't be such a margin if greg suited up.

Ohio State is number 1 in the new coaches poll. I never understood why a loss at the beginning of the regular season in college basketball is treated the same as college football. Florida and North Carolina are still the top two teams in college ball this year, with Pitt, Kansas and UCLA a short distance back. Ohio State (w/out Oden) is not in the same class as those teams IMO.

Carolina "should" win big on Wednesday. But they lean heavily on the young guys as well, so anything can happen.
