2006 OSU vs UM game of the century > 2011 Bama vs LSU game of the century

1. By selling this game as "the game of the century", they hope to get more viewers. And I bet it works. And I bet most people don't remember 2006. That was 5 years ago.
2. Ohio State got smoked by Florida and Michigan got smoked by USC. The national perception of the OSU-Mich game was greatly diminished due to the post-season results. If LSU goes on to win the national championship, and if Alabama goes on to win the Sugar Bowl, the importance of this game will be remembered for a long time.. maybe until August, 2012.

Yeah, it's not like they did this four years ago or anything... in the actual league championship.

With the loser coming off two NCs book ending a Heisman season for Tebow.

I do think this was the de facto championship between the two best teams. And that's why they should not rematch; so we can see if that's true or not. Or if like in 2006 :frown2: the gotc teams go on to lose to someone else out of conference.

This was the worst possible result for those wanting to avoid a rematch. Alabama missed 4 FGs, had the INT ripped out of a completion at the 1, outgained LSU, won the field position battle, and did everything necessary to win other than score more points.

The only thing this game proved was that LSU's kicker is better than either of Alabama's kickers.

Lots of football left to be played, but if both teams win out there will be a bigger cry for a rematch of this one than there was for OSU/UM in 2006.

^^This is going to make a difference if we see other top 10 teams dropping games.

I just hope LSU(assuming they would win out) doesn't end up playing the smurfs for a national championship.I can't imagine how many times ESPN would use the phrase "David versus Goliath"

So make the fucking field goals or stop whining about a rematch. It's pointless, if your team isn't solid in the kicking game that doesn't give you the auto rematch argument. It's not like the weather was windy, raining, snowing, hailing etc... making it difficult to kick a GD field goal! Suck it up the game turned out to be not all that it was billed up to and Bama played their way out of a NC berth. If your kicker(s) is sucking donkey balls and you know this coming in because you have 2 kickers, then you have to start taking a different strategy at some point and try to actually (OH MY GOSH!!) score a fucking touchdown!

pssst! rematch.
