'09 VA OL Morgan Moses (Virginia Signee)

I wonder if Moses and Hall are an either/or from THEIR perspective. Hall in particular has made several comments about opportunities to play.

Wishing all out for Adams, Hall, Moses, Boyd, in that order,

Have you looked at our QB depth chart? Boyd is my number one.

Yes, very good point. :)

And of course, CBF40, one of my particular favorite recruiting gurus on this board, whom I trust implicitly, and who probably never needs to stay at a Holiday Inn Express....for any reason, has been saying that very thing almost since day 1 of this recruiting class. So, I am well aware of that, and I agree. I want Boyd in the worst possible way if we can get him.

And all is made even the more accute assuming JoeBau, w/his solid skill sets, is gone...and assuming that OhrJohnson and RossOlt, which have also been mentioned by esteemed BP posters previuosly as potential sustitutes, do not have what it takes to make adequate backups, even for a play or two. Pryor almost seems invincible to me...not a healthy mindset.

And, not saying here that there is anything resembling a huge gap between the four on my wish list, not at all. But somehow I've convinced myself that OL and DL are even bigger needs. Hell, If I had my way, I'd probably sacrifice my OhioState soul to get WilliamCampbell too, in addition to the fantastic4, away from Michigan (and/or Miami now, if you would believe what the Rivals update said yesterday). Speaking of Alabama, we saw what a huge addition, literally, TerrCody was for their defense this year. Be nice if Rowell, if and when he comes aboard, turns out to be something akin to that.

FWIW, guess I live in relative fear of the LOS aspects of our game. God only knows how dominant our back 7 would have/could have been, if we would have had strong, consistent DL play...which against USC, might have kept us competitive in that game, which, had we been just that, could have made some significant difference on the way this season played out. And the same for our OL, all things considered, what a difference it would have/could have made for our boy the Bean, had he had at least a little consistency in front of him this year. I'm not saying anything original, I know.

Convinced also, FWIW, that what really seperates the best in the SEC, at least from us, year after year, in general, is their speed and athleticism at DL, not the skill positions. (my $.02). Of course, the other argument is the QB play of the Big12. So this whole rant is probably worthless. Slow day!

All is I care about at all is...........GO BUCKEYES!!

I'm not a recruiting guru but from what I gather by reading other peoples opinions, Hall right now is the polished player while Moses would seem to have more upside, would that be a fair assessment? I love Moses's size, but I've heard he has a lot of work to do in pass protection.

Reports were from Hawaii that he struggled with the faster edge rushers, which is normal for almost any H.S. OL at an all-star game, Mike Adams excluded. Most of these guys are able to use their size to dominate and their technique, feet, etc all suffer for the most part. He's a decent athlete for his size but when your going against guys who are 100lbs less than you and most likely better coordinated you are going to struggle. But as much as he's been ripped for his pass blocking skills hes been praised for his run blocking. Hall struggled with McVey in their playoff game as well ever H.S. lineman needs work to get ready for the next level. I'm more concerned about him having the grades and actually coming to visit than I am with him being ready to take on Aaron Maybin and the likes right away.

He may be a contingency for Hall anyways.

Not necessarily. Hall has great feet as a drive blocker but his pass protection skills need a LOT of work if he's gonna be a tackle in college. Moses isn't polished but he is so big and strong he doesn't have to be, he is ready to go in there right now and manhandle defensive linemen, moreso than Hall even.

Thanks for the replies and insight buckeyeliger and keylime. It would nice if we could snag them both. The Buckeyes always seem to get great RBs and thats the classic formula for winning, play great D.. run the ball and limit mistakes, and a great O-line is crucial for that.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - All-American Chat: Morgan Moses (free)

When did Ohio State first start to really come on strong in recruiting you? How often do you talk with them? Which coach is recruiting you? - alexr511

Moses - During the summer. I talk to them maybe once a week. Coach Tressel is the main coach I talk to.

What about Ohio State appeals to you the most? When are you taking a visit to OSU? And is the chance to play with a QB like Terrelle Pryor a big factor in your decision? - Str1k3r42

Moses - I don't know when I'm taking an official yet (He's definitely taking one). Playing time plays a big factor and playing in front of a big quarterback like Terrell Pryor is a factor too. It's a nice bonus. He can make you look good if you do bad and he's going to be there another three years.

I know Moses wants immediate playing time but I'm not sure he is good enough right now...he needs some serious work with a college position coach. I can almost guarantee you he won't be the #1 OT on Rivals list after the USAAB...they have been raving about the guy listed at #2, D.J. Fluker, while constantly pointing out that Moses has struggled at the tackle spot, just like he did in Hawaii.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Army analysis: East stars (free)

OT Morgan Moses, 6-7/347, Richmond (Va.) Meadowbrook

ASSETS: He is just a mammoth along the offensive front and has long arms and big hands.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs to redistribute some of his body weight which should help him with his flexibility and lateral movement.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE IN PRACTICE: He is one of the more dominating run blockers on either squad.
CONCLUSION: Morgan has a world of potential and will only continue to get better. Since he is being recruited as an offensive tackle, he most likely will redshirt while he works on his pass protection. After that he could become an all-conference type player wherever he ends up.
