'09 TX QB Russell Shepard (LSU Signee)

I read elsewhere that Garrett Gilbert committed to Texas. Anyone knows what that means for Shepard?

Gilbert hasn't committed...yet. But it is likely coming and it will be interesting to see hot this affects things. I think A&M will make a huge push...

I don't see OSU being an option given where OSU stands with a certain '08 QB...

Well, Pryor isn't a done deal ... yet.

Notre Dame signed Jimmy Clausen in 2007 (Rivals #1 pro-style QB, #1 overall) and Dayne Crist in 2008 (Rivals #2 pro-style QB, #25 overall), and USC always manages to have a two or three super blue chip QB's in their program at all times, so why can't the Buckeyes have more than one top flight QB on their roster? Shepard is already a year behind Pryor, and after a red-shirt and a year as a back-up, he could conceiveably be "The Man" in 2011, with three years as the starting QB....

Maybe Shepard isn't the guy, but Ohio State will still need to sign a top QB in 2009, regardless of where Pryor ends up.

UM coaches stop by to watch Shepard practice. Scout.com: Player Journal

Russell Shephard favors UM, UF, OU, Tex, LSU. 20 offers overall. Really wants Texas offer during visit.

'09 Russell Shephard is unconcerned about competition, including Texas' new '09 QB verbal (Gilbert), saying he can switch positions if necessary.

Shepard gets offer, won?t commit yet

Notable from the article...
?I would say Texas is still up there, but Michigan is really at the top of my list, especially if they don?t get (2008 top recruit) Terrelle Pryor,? he said. ?I feel like I could go there and play right away. I?m also looking at Florida and LSU. Both of those schools have pretty good depth-chart situations for me.?
Found this on a scUM forum. I'll say Hot Rod's making strides.

Not so surprising is that he links his college choice with TP's.

2009's TERRELLE PRYOR?: Dual-threat QB Russell Shepard has U-M at the top of his list

February 11, 2008
FREE PRESS STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES
If the U-M football team strikes out in the Terrelle Pryor sweepstakes, it may have an early lead in the race for next year's highly touted dual-threat quarterback.
2009 recruit Russell Shepard (Houston (TX) Cypress Ridge), a five-star quarterback much like Pryor, has U-M very high on his list.

Shepard, a lifelong University of Texas fan, visited the Longhorns over the weekend. But even though he got a scholarship offer from his favorite team, he told the Austin American-Statesman that he may have a different favorite than many would think.

?I would say Texas is still up there, but Michigan is really at the top of my list, especially if they don?t get Terrelle Pryor,? he told the paper. ?I feel like I could go there and play right away. I?m also looking at Florida and LSU. Both of those schools have pretty good depth-chart situations for me.?

is this likely a token thread as well? because from what i gather he doesn't seem to be too interested in us...maybe im wrong (hopefully)
Probably. I find more interest in the thread with regards to our rival, but it's probably bound for the '09 subforum eventually.

grad stated Newsome, Payne & Newton were the big-3 targets for OSU as of xmas (Shep was largely considered a pipe dream). Glenville's Owens will be a popular name on the free boards also.
