FYI, I'm kinda surprised nobody has made the connection between his hometown and a certain show on NBC...

I wanted to pretty badly, but I held back for the sake of the thread. I'll leave one of my favorite quotes though.

FWIW

The West Scranton, PA QB [Matt McGloin] who won two District 2 Class AAA titles along with Hubie Graham and Eric Shrive has accepted an offer to be a preferred walk-on at Penn State. He has been compared at the H.S. stage by some as a Tyler Palko/Drew Tate type of QB and obviously has an uphill battle to start over Clark & Devlin. Devlin is the states record holder for most passing yards in Pennsylvania H.S. history with 9,000 plus yards at Downington East [AAAA]...he was the #4 rated QB in the nation during the '06 class.

Matt McGloin has been West Scranton's starting QB for three years and has ended his H.S. career with 58 TD passes and 5,485 yards passing. I posted this NOT because this is some amazing revelation or that we are guaranteed to get Eric Shrive because his H.S. QB/teammate walked on at Penn State but because it certainly doesn't hurt Penn State's recruitment of Eric Shrive, having his H.S. QB at Penn State a year prior to him coming out. I look forward to McGloin hosting Shrive if he does indeed make an official visit sometime down the road.

I think its very relevant. You also have to consider the friendship between him and Graham as relevant as well and his family growing up ND fans.

It'll be hilarious in a way when he goes to a school totally unconnected to him in any way.

From TheWolverine...talks about his contact with Coach Rodriguez and Coach Gibson. Visited ND recently and has previously visited Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse and Penn State. Has visits planned for Syracuse, Miami (FL), Boston College, Connecticut, Pitt and Ohio State.

A handful of kool-aid drinkers were expecting an ND pledge, but anyone who actually matters in this recruitment knew far from it. Sounds like the visit to ND went well, and that both sides are comfortable with whatever timetable plays out. He's looking pretty steadfast in his plans to explore all of his options. Anybody can get involved here, but they'll have to make a statement to do so.

My take? The kid lives in an "Irish household", and Notre Dame needs offensive tackles in a bad way. ND would have to shoot themselves in the foot not to stay involved with him, but he will give everyone a fair shot.

"I plan to take all five of my official visits and I won't be eliminating schools until I visit them," Eric Shrive said. "The Internet is great for researching schools and stats, but it can't give you a feel for what it's like to actually be there. I'm completely open right now and I don't even plan to start narrowing things down until August or September..."

24 colleges seeking Invaders? star

At birth, he measured 24 inches and weighed close to 10 pounds. By fourth grade, he wrestled at the East Nationals in the 110-pound weight class.

As a freshman, he moved up to the varsity football team, weighing 255 pounds and standing 6 feet 5 inches tall.

Now he?s 6-7, weighs 295 pounds and wears a size 16 shoe. And he?s a big-time football recruit.

?He?s the total package,? said Matt Alkire, national recruiting analyst for Scout.com. ?It?s a combination of things. His size and strength and the way he plays football come into play. He?s technically sound.

?And Eric plays with a nasty streak and with great intensity.?

For the second time in as many years, West Scranton is at the center of the early football recruiting season.

Last winter, tight end Hubie Graham, who accepted a scholarship to the University of Illinois after being courted by 29 Football Bowl Subdivision schools, brought the spotlight to Luzerne Street.

Now it?s shining bright again.

With two full weeks remaining in March, Shrive has received 24 scholarship offers from college football?s finest programs and that list is expected to grow. Among the tackles listed on Rivals.com Top 100, only Xavier Nixon, a 6-6, 275-pounder from Fayetteville, N.C., is close to that number, with 10 offers.

?I?m trying to keep all of this in perspective,? Shrive said. ?I?m excited about all of the attention, but in recruiting you can drop in a second.?
