'09 OH LB Will Studlien (Northwestern signee)

Will and the Big Walnut Eagles led by SR QB Ethan Wetzel had a great showing at Chillicothe on friday. No stats available
Big Walnut (Sunbury) 43 vs Chillicothe (Chillicothe) 7

Chillocothe's only score came on blocked punt when Big Nut'z 2nd, 3rd string were in.

Will had a great game. 5-10 tackles and a sack or two from what I saw. edit(12 tackles and 1 sack...see below from Bukibill)

I heard he has been offered by Akron and contacted by many other MAC and some Big Ten schools.

Studlien leads Big Walnut to 8-0

Defensive star: Big Walnut linebacker Will Studlien, who led a defense that held Liberty to 1 yard rushing and 172 total yards

The steam that poured from linebacker Will Studlien's body Friday seemed to symbolize the Golden Eagles' relentless pressure that for a second consecutive game blew up a high-powered offense in a 24-7 victory over Olentangy Liberty.

Both Liberty and Dublin Scioto, which Big Walnut defeated 21-7 on Oct. 6, had been averaging better than 30 points per game.

"Our defensive line up front is just freeing up so much and we've got guys who are just flying to the ball," said Studlien, whose team improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the league. "We've just got playmakers back there and we're fast on our feet. But it all starts up front."

Big Walnut 24, Olentangy Liberty 7: Defense paves way to victory

"We've just got a lot of playmakers and fast guys on the defensive side of the ball," Big Walnut junior linebacker Will Studlein said. "Tonight, it was all about the defensive line pursuit. They went after him hard and it freed up the linebackers and backs to move around and make plays."

Will was named the Central Ohio District D-3 Player of the year.

Storm Klein also made the first team.

Monster game for Studlien/B.W.

Will Studlien game stats: 19 tackles (6 solo), 1 sack, 1 int (I observed an uncredited forced fumble)

He was in on nearly every tackle in the first 1.5 qtrs.

In the first 2 games, Big Walnut has given up 10 pts, and 7 of those came on a hail mary to end this game (up by 6-7 tds).

Will add a handful of photos tonight to this thread, the full gallery will likely have to wait until Sunday.

Great game for Will. Again I say that he is a beast.

I don't understand how people can judge his game speed as "not what they expected" when he almost single handedly put the choke hold on Shelby's run game in the first half which set the tone. What do you expect when you evaluate speed...more than 19 tackles in a playoff game, more than 1 interception, more than a forced fumble????

To say anything negative about his performance tonight is totally wrong and not accurate at all.

This week stats
Will Studlien - 19 tackles (6 solo), 1 sack, 1 int, 1FF
James Laurinaitis (against Wisky) - 19 tackles (9 solo), 1 sack, 1FR

and Lil Animal got Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. I would like to see another LB in D3 have comparable stats to this. I mean come on, you got to look at this performance and say WOW!

You don't have to be a physical specimen at the high school level to do well. Maybe they're just saying he doesn't have that elite athleticism yet that we've seen in LB's like Hawk and Laurinaitis. They're not knocking him, just citing it as an area for improvement.

The middle linebacker should get a lot of tackles since he's in the middle of the field. I've watched him and Klein play and Klein is much quicker to the ball, but isn't in on as many tackles. I'm not saying he can't add tenths he's just slower than it appeared on film, but he appears to have great size already. Basically I think Klein projects better on the next level.

I was looking threw this thread and honestly I was at the game. Shelby ran a offense where they ran the ball every single darn time so no wonder he got 19 tackles. As a osu prospect at linebacker he was not quick on his feet but he got to the ball sometimes a little late. My opinion honestly is that he has reached full potentiall and as of now I do not see him translating into a D1 linebacker... but things can change obviously

You are not the first person who was at that game to say something like that...granted Will is still over a year away from stepping foot on a college campus. But one of our sources at the game commented that he wasn't sure if Will would be in the running for an OSU offer based on what he saw...
