'09 OH LB Will Studlien (Northwestern signee)

After watching that game today, I think Will is next year's version of Michael Zordich... Not the biggest or fastest guy out there, but a leader, warrior, and extremely tough and hard-nosed football player... I'd be all for finding a spot for him in our class next season...

Any chance he can play DE or LEO? We have Whiting and Klein in, an offer out to Petey Smith and Dorian Bell(not likely anyways I would guess), and Julius Ferrell is way too good to pass on imo. Sounds like a great player in any event but with his size it seems possible he could play many positions.

I don't know... I think he's a MIKE all the way... His 6-3 listing is very generous... I'd ballpark him no more than 6-1 215 right now...

Hmmm interesting...to the '09 discussion board I go then! With so much of the '08 class full it's time to start talking foolishness for '09  But to finish on topic...still sounds as if Studlien is the type of player we want here at OSU.

Don't forget Quanthony Fletcher out of Dr. Krop HS in Miami. He apparently will be up for a camp this year at Ohio State and reeeeally wants to be a Buckeye. Possible we take 4 next year and see where the pan out, especially with only taking 2 this year (most likely).

Him too and he seems like a big kid...needless to say there should be plenty of competition and able bodies competing for spots in '09.

I'm just sayin'. I'm just... sayin'. That is all.

Not saying Will is too small for LB... Just that he probably doesn't translate anywhere else due to his size... And I don't think he's even 6-2...

Of those players you listed, Ferrell and Klein are probably more likely to put their hand in the dirt and line up at DE. Studlien seems like a LB all the way to me.

Nice pic of Will by rivals.com. That's what a linebacker's helmet should look like.

Tell you what - can the young man play football at a high level? Does he want to be a Buckeye? Sometimes, every once in a blue (no, make that scarlet and gray) moon, someone comes along who transcends the "prototypical recruit" profile. Some guys are just players. I've never seen Studlien play, so I'm not qualified to make a judgement. But, I'll tell you what, I love to see tough guys off of state championship teams. You can never have enough winners in your program.

Not arguing against your point, BGriff, but too many folks put too much stock into "measureables" as valid comparisons. I was just looking back at Scout's listing of out 2002 commits. We had three LB commits who had virtually the exact same measureables:

A: 6-2/235/4.50
B: 6-3/236/4.50
C: 6-3/235/4.50

Look at those numbers...virtual clones. Those three players?

A. A.J. Hawk
B. Bobby Carpenter
C. Mike D'Andrea

While A.J. and Bobby both excelled and made it to the pros, they were not quite as identical in their playing style as they were in their measurements. And we all know what happened to Mike (injuries just never left him alone). By the way, Hawk was #32 in the country at his position, Carpenter was #22, and D'Andrea was #1...the exact inverse of how they turned out.

Ferrell is a definite possibility at LEO but Klein is a LB all the way...thanks for the heads up on Will though. I agree...you can tell Will has been banging some heads around in that pic' and he does just look like a player.

I love watching him play. The team & crowd feeds off of his energy and performance. He even had the game-saving tackle, taking down his teammate after intercepting the ball.
