When you get 3 DB commits in less than 24 hours so soon after camp it is pretty clear the message was sent that the ships will be offered to others if you don't step up.

I think Hunter was "others".

In my best judgement, I say that there is no way he had/has an offer. From all accounts, DJ would hop on an OSU offer if it came his way. He knew there were many offers out there and he waited...my guess is he waited for an offer that seemed inevitable to him, but it never came. Genuine contact and interest, but never an official offer.

MIDDLETOWN ? Middletown senior Deejay Hunter has several college visits left this summer, but has narrowed his choices to five Division I programs according to his father.
Dwayne Hunter said in a phone interview from Gatlinburg, Tenn., that his son is considering Ohio State, Indiana, Tennessee, West Virginia and Louisville. Hunter has been to Ohio State, Indiana and Tennessee and has visits scheduled later this month at West Virginia and Louisville. He will also visit Wisconsin this weekend.

Any chance this kid goes to Wisconsin? We BADLY need a free safety. Put in the good word if the Buckeyes aren't going to offer. It's not good for upper echelon teams in the conference if kids like these leave Big Ten Country. Another kid fooled by the impressiveness of a couple pseudo mid majors dominating the rest.

Deejay Hunter

MIDDLETOWN ? Middletown High School senior Deejay Hunter will play football in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference.

Hunter, a standout defensive back/safety, gave a verbal commitment Wednesday morning, July 9, to continue his career at the University of Tennessee.

First-year Middletown coach Jason Krause confirmed Hunter's decision. Krause said he offered Hunter congratulations via text message in the early afternoon.

"It's a great opportunity," Krause said. "Anytime a young man can go to the next level, play and game and get an education, it's awesome."

Defensive back D.J. Hunter (Middletown, Ohio), a Buckeye State Top 20 prospect, remains committed to Tennessee despite the impending departure of Coach Phillip Fulmer. The Wisconsin Badgers wanted Hunter to visit this weekend, and a coach from West Virginia is set to stop by Middletown High School today.

Other schools in contact with Hunter over the past two weeks include Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, Louisville and Georgia Tech. Hunter plans to visit Tennessee sometime after a new coach is hired. He has not ruled out other visits, but nothing is schedule at this point and his current desire is to stay with his commitment to Tennessee.
