There are 9-10 DB's that graduate this year or next on our roster.

Patterson SR
O'neal SR
Jenkins SR
Lane SR
Russell JR
Coleman JR
Washington JR
Amos SO 3rd year
Chekwa JR

I might be missing someone but we didn't take alot of DB's last year and in the next year or so we are losing alot.

Chekwa is a redshirt sophomore.

Yep and that means hes been in the program for 3 years and can declare for the NFL this year or next. He will most likely be nickelback or starter at corner next year. The point is he will be gone after 2009 unless he is injured.

Everyones making a big deal about the numbers we are offering at WR and DB yet they haven't considered what we are losing in the next two seasons at WR and DB. Heck we had 2 seniors transfered which were 2 opening for 2009 anyways. If our top 3 WR's go pro which is very possible that would be 5 total slots open for 2009.

Hawthorne and Appleton (WR's and DB's) are needed in this recruiting class much more than people think.

I like the oofer and I hope they become Buckeyes. Recruiting Illinois has actually become a yearly tradition at OSU!!!

Not sure why you're so certain he's going early. But, the reason I pointed that out is because you listed Amos as a redshirt sophomore so I thought you may have been confused about Chekwa's eligibility.

And Amos is a redshirt junior, now that I think about it.

Every position is a real need. You can make an argument that RB is a much bigger need at this point. We will be fine with WRs, as we have some excellent young players in the pipelines in Washington, Posey, Sanzenbacher, Thomas and others. They will have time to develop because we have veterans Robiskie, Hartline and Small.

The staff is definitely much more concerned about DBs, and that why they want the numbers. DB recruiting is hit or miss. We got a couple of two star players and a three star player starting in the starting four. Our highest rated DB was switched to WR and our best corner on the NC squad was converted from WR. That's why you gotta have the numbers.

No one out of the DBs from the class of '07 has really made a splash yet, so I think that coaches will expect guys in this class to get playing time very early, kinda like how Jenkins, Washington and Russell all became starters there second year here.

I agree...But at some point you gotta say enough enough is enough so you can lock up the big boys as well...I think 6DBs 3 WRs is plenty...

I agree that 6 DBs and 3 WRs are adequate. I would be willing to take 2 WRs if we spot another big and fast DL that we like. Hawthorne's advantage is his versatility, kinda like Donald Washington playing mainly WR in high school but converting to a CB in college.

Yeah I agree, but with most already feeling that Carter is in and Jackson has us leading...McGee I would think is number one on the board at the last CB spot with Vlad and Hunter/Banks looking they are there for the other two S spots...

Just not sure where Hawthorne fits in...McGee fits the role you described as well as does Banks...

With that said the staff could use this to their advantage if they are looking to get a couple of them in the bag early, but they would have to walk the fine line of pressuring them and turning them off...

I think westbuck said it best...I think McGee is a guy you wait on until the very end.

Let's wait and see if anything actually coms of all this...the offer to Appleton wouldn't shock me, although it would be a mild surprise. An offer to Hawthorne as a DB would surprise me a great deal...

Scout $

4/29

From the Vandy site...has offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas State, Illinois State, Minnesota and Vanderbilt. Talks about trying to visit Vandy this summer.

Rivals $

From O&B News...talks about his track season...coaches from ND, Texas Tech, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas State have been by his school. Says he is not really considering Ohio State. Talks about his Illinois visit and says he would like to see Arkansas, Arizona, Kansas State and Texas Tech.

Looks like we can move this one to the '09 forum...

correctamundo...he wants to play WR and OSU is talking DB...either way, I don't see an offer in his future. I know I am in the minority there, but I think Appleton projects much better at the next level...
