Wanted: One Big Offensive Lineman
Though It?s Basketball Season, College Football Teams Heavily Pursue West?s Watt
By Pete Reinwald
Of School Week
He was always bigger than the other kids. For much of his childhood, Chris Watt was considered too big to play youth football.
Even when he played basketball, he would draw the attention ? and sometimes the ire -- of parents. Sometimes, when he fouled another player, ?other parents would get furious with him,? said Chris?s mother, Mary Pat. ?It wasn?t that he was being over-aggressive. It was just his size.?
Watt, now a 6-foot-4, 270-pound football and basketball star at Glenbard West, is still getting attention ? from colleges that want him on their football team. And he?s just a junior.
Within the past three weeks, football representatives from Northwestern University, Indiana University, Ohio State University and the University of Notre Dame have come to see him at Glenbard West ? even though he still has another year of football at the school.
