LSU?s Miles reaffirms offer to Myles Jr. on weekend visit
By Todd Holcomb | Sunday, July 20, 2008
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Darren Myles Jr. met in Baton Rouge this morning with LSU head coach Les Miles, who reaffirmed his scholarship offer to the four-star safety from Carver of Atlanta.

Myles Jr. then reaffirmed his desire to wait until after his high school season before making a decision but that LSU was among his handful of favorites.

?Coach Miles told us that safety is a position of need, that he likes his ability to come up and force the run and he felt like he can help right away,? Darren Myles Sr., the player?s father and high school coach, said by phone from Baton Rouge on Sunday evening. ?He told us he was willing to take his commitment right now. Then he paused.?

Myles Sr. said this was his son?s sixth unofficial visit to a top school. He also has seen Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Georgia Tech. He also wants to visit Ohio State and West Virginia, but those probably will not come until the fall as official visits, Myles Sr. said.

Myles Sr. grew up in Louisiana and attended Douglass High of New Orleans and was recruited by LSU in football before going to Purdue. Myles Sr. came to Atlanta?s Douglass High in 1996, when Myles Jr. was 6. But Myles Sr. said that his family?s ties to Louisiana would be no factor in his son?s decision.

?He hasn?t been there since he was 6,? Myles Sr. said. ?Darren?s 17 now. Just because we?re from New Orleans, it?s not a shoo-in. It?s what they offer him now as a football player and student-athlete. It has to be a good situation.?

Surprising to hear...although I know he had some interest in Purdue and some other SEC schools, I figured he was LSU all the way. Watching videos of Darren. it's pretty obvious he's going to make a big impaact where he goes. Even though he's not too big right now, he hits hard. He reminds me of Kurt Coleman, but taller.

Scout $ (story on Alabama visit)

1/12/09

Darren visited Alabama this past weekend and loved it. The interviewed was actually conducted with his dad, and he and Darren really liked Coach Saban a lot and though they had a great program. Will decide on Signing Day. Will visit Ohio State on 1/16, this weekend. Darren has previously visited LSU and Purdue as well.

Carver-Atlanta safety Darren Myles, one of the state’s top uncommitted prospects, said he is no longer considering Georgia Tech.

“I don’t want to be that close to home,” the 6-foot-1, 175-pound senior said. After a December meeting with Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson, Myles told the AJC he would schedule an official visit with Tech sometime in January.

“I’m going to see what other schools have to offer,” he said.

Myles returned from an official visit to Alabama this weekend. He denied rumors that he was leaning heavily toward the Crimson Tide over LSU.

“It went well,” he said. “I didn’t commit, but I got to meet coach [Nick] Saban and he told me they were willing to wait on my decision.”

With dozens of offers, Myles said he will wait until Signing Day before making a decision. He has taken official visits to Alabama, LSU and Purdue. He has an official visit scheduled for Ohio State next weekend.

Carver DB Darren Myles packs bags for Ohio State
By Phil Giltman | Friday, January 16, 2009
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Carver-Atlanta safety Darren Myles Jr. will make an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound senior said.

Myles, one of the state?s top uncommitted prospects, appears to be worn down from the recruiting process. Myles drove to Tuscaloosa last weekend with his father and coach, Darren Myles Sr. during an official visit to Alabama.

?These visits are all kind of the same,? he said.

Myles has already taken visits to LSU and Purdue, his father?s alma mater. It is rumored to be an all-out battle between LSU and Alabama for Myles, but he said he has no favorites.

Myles said he will wait until signing day to make a decision but told the AJC that he is no longer considering Georgia Tech.

?I don?t want to be that close to home,? he said earlier. ?I want to see what other schools have to offer.?

Last month, Myles said he removed UGA from his list of finalists because he hadn?t heard from the Bulldogs for weeks.
