Green picks up first offer - Palmetto Points

Saturday, February 16. 2008

Tallahassee (Fla.) Leon WR James Green picked up his first scholarship offer earlier this week when Central Florida jumped on board with a full ride for the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder. Green, a transfer from Miami Krop, also is getting attention from South Carolina. The Gamecocks have his film and are in the process of evaluating him. Florida State, North Carolina and other schools also have expressed interest in Green, an ESPN150 Watch List member for the Class of 2009.

A photo... as well as...

Rivals$ Film

I will leave the critique up to the experts. However, I will say he is definitely near the top of my list of receivers. Big frame, knows how to use his size for the jump ball/fade in the end zone and showcases a good amount of speed in separating from defenders... my take, fwiw, and a fairly generic take on film too, lol.

I certainly won't call myself an expert, but I will comment on the film:

I agree that James uses his body well in this film and goes after all kinds of throws. I can't say that it's possible to judge his top-end speed in this film, which doesn't show any clear highlights of seperation. On a couple long throws it appears that he has to either wait on the ball or come back for it, which obviously completely hides any breakaway capabilities.

IMO, if James gets an offer it will be at camp. It's also clear that not many other schools know that much about him, which is good news if tOSU wants a chance to study up before they offer. Also, his teammate Etienne went to tOSU camp and loved it, and will likely advise James (and Quanthony) to get up to camp if at all possible.

This is the same way I would of put it as well...I would need to see some speed numbers...Frame looks all of 6'2'' maybe 6'3''...

Make no mistake tho the staff has obviously had a chance to evaluate him with seeing Sabino and Howard and have a good relationship with the coaches after taking two kids, so I am assuming they have a good idea on background and whether or they are going to push hard for him or not...

Even tho he switched schools...

USC Makes Offer To Florida Receiver

By Phil Kornblut
USC is one of the recent offers for WR James Green (6-4 200) of Tallahassee, FL. He also has an offer from Central Florida, and Oho State is evaluating film to decide about an offer. Green plans to visit USC this spring along with other SEC schools, Ohio State, Michigan and others. "I like Ohio State because two of my former teammates (from MIami) are up there," Green said. "They invited me up there for their spring game to take a visit and see what it is like." Green said his three favorites right now, in no order, are USC, Ohio State and Georgia. Green's uncle, Lamont Green, played at Florida State and the NFL. The Seminoles always are a factor with local talent but Green said they aren't much of a player with him right now. "Florida State, to me, they are a good program," he said. "I like to watch them play. I just can't see myself playing there (at this time)."

Do you think that we could offer sooner now that usc's involved? I apologize if this has already been discussed, but do we know why he transferred?

Why do you feel South Carolina is such a big threat?

Because I frequently make a fool out of myself on here, I guess. :!

Well, fly...I guess I could say that Spurrier is always a threat to go deep, or something deflective, but really I thought my boy, petey, was working his way in to my heart again. It helps to read the article doesn't it? Thanks for putting me straight.

I like the sound of that, but you would think from seeing Sabino and Howard they would already have seen quite a bit of film...
The way I see it, since Green is on offense, and Sabino and Howard are on D, it is not likely that they would've seen as much film. The way I understand it, the film is stripped down to show only sections that are relevant to the player of interest.

Yeah yeah I understand that obviously, but I was meaning more in terms of just being at the school, and things you would think the coach would of been like check out this film of the junior WR we have here...
