'09 FL S Vladimir Emilien (Michigan Signee - transfer to Toledo)

He can take as long as he wants as far as I'm concerned. There will definitely be a schollie for him. :)

Not sure if that is the situation anymore. With all the commits that we have had recently, I don't think that there are any more spots being held for a single recruit other than one for Marcus Hall.

However, I would be very disappointed if he misses the bus. IMO he commits to OSU in July after his visits.

Watt and Emilien are both doing visits in July. I can imagine the staff waiting for them to finish those visits before moving on - particularly if they have indicated OSU is their leader. Of course, Watt is in a different category since OSU would have to extend an additional offer to fill "his" spot. But I can't see OSU moving on to Hunter for example before Emilien takes his trips. Just my opinion.

I agree with that. I think that their spots are safe for now given their time schedules. There's no one of the radar for the next couple weeks at least to commit to tOSU, and so I think that they do have time until their respective visits. I don't think Hunter is expected to receive an offer.....we might save that schollie for someone like McGee....at least I would like to see that happen.

Scout $

From the Michigan Scout affiliate. Ohio State not getting a visit from Emilien, citing the commitment of 6 defensive backs already. Michigan also backing off Emilien. Wisky, Stanford, LSU entering the picture and recruiting him hard.

Not getting an unofficial visit this summer...I wouldn't completely rule out an official. Not saying it is going to happen, just clarifying your summary.

I'm really curious w/ regard to what happened to cause the staff to seemingly cool on Vlad. On the one hand, it is true that Vlad essentially got squeezed. But on the other hand, here's a kid that is offered early, is reportedly high on OSU, is planning a second visit before the summer is up, and wants to decide prior to his football season. THEN offers go out to Brown and McDougald. In other words, it isn't as if all three held offers at the same time, and Brown and McDouglad simply beat him to the punch. It almost feels to me like the staff reevaluated the three and decided, at best, the difference between them was negligible, and perhaps even saw more in Brown and McDougald. It is a bit frustrating to me because I'd like to see us really expand our presence in South Florida (the talent pool there is just disgusting), and here was an intelligent kid that seemed physically gifted and high on us. If we can't hold off on other offers until July/August to give these Florida kids time to come up and make sure, it'll be tough to land them. On the other hand, I also understand the need to keep ties strong in Ohio, and it appears we're trying to establish a mini-pipeline into Monroeville, which is a pretty darn good idea. It's a real tightrope the staff walks, but I'm glad they at least have cause to deal with this problem. I wish Vlad all the best and am somewhat disappointed, but also happy about the impressive talent we landed.

I agree with your point on expanding our interest in South Florida. Although I didn't hear this being said outright anywhere, but I just wonder what sort of impact McGee's cooling on tOSU had on Vlad. I cannot fault them for wanting to look around some more before being absolutely sure of their decision. It just came down to Corey & Brad being just about as good and our recruiting staff seemed to have given Vlad the heads up on that....at which point Vlad thought that he wanted to take some more time. I just think that his time schedule was the undoing......but I don't think that everything's done yet. There's that horrible word called "decommits" which will always be at the back of our recruiting staff's mind as it is still a long long ways away from signing day. I think we should continue to maintain our interest in awesome recruits such as Vlad and McGee.

Ohio State already has as great a presence in South Florida as any school outside of the Big Three. The Buckeyes could sign 20 kids from South Florida in every class ... the problem is getting the right kids to come north, while at the same time not ignoring the "base" (Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and now Michigan), and keeping a few spots open for "national" recruits. A couple a year (Sabino, Howard in 2008; Carter, Berry in 2009) is just fine.

I feel you sepia. In my own opinion, the difference between Emilien and McDougald was very little. The only real plus I saw in taking Emilien is the pipeline to South Florida getting stronger, and helping our chances with McGee. With McGee looking elsewhere and spots getting tight, OSU seemed less likely. I would love to have Vlad in this class and I'm not saying I don't agree with our approach, but it is tough to see us not get someone like Vlad due to a numbers crunch. Hopefully there is still a way to fit Vlad into this class, but I'm not seeing it. I see us ending Watt, Longo, Hall, Berry, and Adams if he wants in.
