'09 FL LB/S Frankie Telfort (Southern Cal Signee)

ESPiN (free) -- A Handful of Dominant Defenders Still Undecided About College Futures

Frankie Telfort, OLB, Miami/Gulliver Prep

Player rank (position rank): 29 (3)
Considering: USC, Florida Ohio State and Stanford.

Front-runner: There are conflicting reports about whether or not Telfort has narrowed his list to two finalists. Nonetheless, it seems to be a dead heat between USC and Florida.

Scouts Inc. says: Telfort is exceptionally quick in coverage, but his best attribute might be his awareness skills. Hard to gain much after completing the short pass in his underneath zone; he has great breaking quickness and closing burst.

Is this kid as smart as Myron Rolle? It sounds like he REALLY cares about the education and you CANNOT go wrong with Stanford in that aspect, I can't help but think that would be perfect for him. I'd like to get him or Myles in here for officials (looks like they're going to happen too) to bring in with Wood as Safety. Both guys just look like trememndous talents.

Southeast Recruiting Blog - ESPN

Frankie Telfort, (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep)
ESPNU 150, No. 3 ranked OLB

Going into his third official visit of the season, it is still unclear as to where Telfort could be leaning . Initially it was assumed that either Southern Cal or Florida would land ESPN's third-ranked outside linebacker, but then Telfort surprised many by taking an official visit to Stanford last weekend, and adding Ohio State for a visit on Jan. 23 This could be a case of him realizing that both the Trojans and Gators have players on their board ranked higher at his position. Is this forcing him to look elsewhere? Only time will reveal the answer to this recruiting mystery.

Their logic is ridiculous. They're implying that Ohio State doesn't have talented linebackers literally piled in tidy stacks around campus. Perhaps it's true of Stanford, but then again Stanford offers an education that clearly outclasses Florida, OSU, and USC. The talent argument against OSU, though, is just plain stupid.

I think you are misreading the blurb. My take is they are talking about this recruiting year and saying that Telfort is a Plan B recruit for both USC and UF. I've heard some rumors of that as well, that even if he wants to sign with one of those two, they won't accept his commitment.

I think he was a little overrated and his stock has come down a bit. I'd still love to have him at OSU. Give him a shot at S first and then the Tyler Moeller hybrid LB/S role if he can't be a pure safety. Worst case scenario is you have a special teams demon who also gets it done in the classroom. Best case scenario, he is a headhunter in the secondary.

Telfort Makes A Decision

So, Telfort wont be visiting OSU. Sounds like he is headed elsewhere, my guess is Florida but a high chance of Stanford. Sucks, but he was a longshot anyways. We still have great depth at Linebacker and some studs on the way in.

Rivals $

2/3

From FlaVarsity...had made his decision and will announce at 11 AM on Wednesday between Florida and USC.

IMO, this will be one where we will be asking "why didn't OSU go after him harder" in a few years...
