Or you could call Corey and let us know what he says...

Give me a DL class of Simon, Muldoon, Newsome, Carradine and Fellows and I will be ecstatic. No need to cast the net any wider...they can take their time evaluating the other DE spot if Carradine doesn't pan out.

Agreed...Unless Corey says he wants to come and expresses high interest, it is a lot harder and more resources to recruit one kid clear across the country...

I would be very happy with that class since we got 2 true DT's in Goebel and Rowell in '08. However, if we can get Corey at DT I would be a much happier camper. I am the computerbuck of DT's I do believe, mostly because I think our ineffective recruiting of DT's has hurt us lately. I really would like to see 2 true DT's in this class if possible. Maybe I'm an optimist but it seems as if OSU is in pretty decent shape with Corey.

I agree.. DTs and Oline (until the last couple yrs) have been positions we just arent recruiting well enough.. No offense to the 4 kids we have coming back, but none of them really project as legit top tier DTs..

I liked the three from last season and John Simon.. but there are questions whether 3 of those 4 guys can put on the weight to be bigtime DTs.. alot of people think Simon, Mobley, and Goebel are DE/DT types.. which is fine, but i would like some more monsters in the middle.. legit 300-310, athletic, run stuffing type DTs... Rowell is definately one guy..

And Corey Adams would be another.. he is an explosive big man.. the type that causes all type of havoc for an offense..

It bothers me that based on his update, we dont seem to be recruiting him all that hard... i know he's a west coast guy, but the kid did grow up and OSU fan.. it's kinda wierd we arent going really hard after him given its a real position of need..

Reminds me a little of ODowd.. that kid seemed to really be interested in OSU, but we werent returning the love..

For whatever reason this staff isn't too fond of the heavy DTs...They want quick guys that use their hands well and get good leverage...

Insert, Denlinger, Larimore, Anderson, Goebell as guys like that...They also like guys that can play inside and out...

Also guys that some are looking for are very hard to come by and there are maybe 5 or 6 a year in college football...

Goebel will put the weight back on once he's done wrestling. And Simon has a little bit of time to grow.

Is Adams really that big, 310 lb. guy you're looking for? I don't see him being bigger than Goebel or Rowell.

I agree, that does not seem like the big guy people are seeking. He's even being moved outside this year on his HS team... that's not to say he won't play inside and get big in college, but I don't see him being a big space-eater type DT.

Goebel is not a DE, at least not in a 4-3. Garrett was over 280 during part of wrestling season, per XP. 25 lbs hardly seems undoable, like you're suggesitng.

I think Adams will be a legit 300 pounder.. with tremendous athletic ability and explosiveness..

I agree he's not an Omar Hunter type.. a big huge NT type interior lineman.. but Corey is one of those guys who looks to be a tremendous DT prospect..

It's encouraging if Goebel is gonna be a natural 300 pounder with good hands and feet.. i dont think he's as explosive of a prospect as Adams.. but Goebel is gonna be a heck of a players... i didnt know if he was purely gonna be a DT given that many of his highlights are at DE..

Simon is a big kid too.. similar in stature to Adams, but many people have been concerned with his ability to put a legit 300 pounds on his frame.. ive heard alot of people says he's gonna be one of those DE/DT types..

The thing with Goebel and Simon are kids that will play DT in college, but have the athletic ability to play DE in high school...Both will be able to get to 290-300 lbs and are athletic to make plays in the middle of the defense...They are also very strong and will be able to get push...

Our staff is of the opinion of smaller quick lineman on both sides of the ball...I am sure overall they have their reasons, probably better shape, quicker to the hole, quicker to run down plays...

You really can't argue the results in terms of run defense, but you can argue the lack of pressure from all the guys across the board on the d-line not just the inside guys...We were hurt with attrition on both the outside and inside...I truly believe that is why we are struggling there...I also believe this year will be better...Going by rankings the guys we have don't take a back seat to very many...Worthington was a 5 *, Abdallah was Army all american, Denlinger 4*, Larimore 4*...

This is not saying that I wouldn't love to land Adams to go along with Simon, but at times it just doesn't make sense to go hard after a kid that is across the country, you make them make the first move and maybe visit for camp or something to show interest...

Also other than Abdallah we don't lose anyone so we have the other 3 mentioned above, Rose will hopefully be back if he can recover, then we have the 3 guys we brought in this year and Simon and Fellows, Muldoon who could play there if we bring them in...Depth is back on the rise...

I agree with you on all accounts except that the staff looks for smaller offensive linemen.

That seriously doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, our O-line averages larger than some NFL lines. [I looked it up in that argument about zone-blocking schemes].

I'll get right on that

Well when you are getting guys that are 6'8'' they are going to weigh more than say a 6'5'' OT...But if you see Boone in person he doesn't seem to have an ounce of fat on him, Rehring might be the only guy that is recruited that might be considered as a bigger olineman...

So in other terms I guess they search for guys with good weight and good athleticism...

With that said this is probably discussion better served elsewhere...
