Scottsdale Saguaro vs. Scottsdale Chaparral

From Staff Reports
When: 7 p.m.
Where: 1501 W. Guadalupe Rd., Mesa (Dobson High School)

Key matchup: Quarterback Spencer Stone and the Chaparral passing game are running as fluidly as they have all year. The Sabercats? biggest weakness is their pass defense, and the Firebirds must take advantage of that to keep pace.

Key stat: 17. The number of games Saguaro has won in a row. It?s last loss was to Chaparral, 24-21 on Oct. 27 of last year.

The Intrigue: A semifinal game doesn?t get much bigger than this. Saguaro won the regular season matchup 31-28 at Chaparral, but the Firebirds rallied from 21-0 and had the ball with a chance to win in the fourth quarter. The winner will play either Tucson Canyon Del Oro or Peoria in the state title game.

Is Corey strictly a DT? I would love to bring in Simon and Adams as well (obviously, who wouldn't?), but I would also love to get in on Brandon Taylor, DT in the mold of Brandon Thompson, son of Lawrence Taylor and from Dr. Krop HS in Miami... home of Sabino and T.Howard. What about Corey at SDE behind Heyward?

I believe right now Taylor is barely 6'...Now that isn't saying he can't get earn an offer, and I havent seen film, but the staff hasn't offered any dt's standing only 6' that I can remember...

Elvis Dumervil is an example of a shorter DT who made it work...however Brandon is still a work in progress. He has great instincts and a great quickness for a big kid. I don't think you can compare Brandon Taylor and Corey Adams at this point, talent-wise. I think people tend to get caught up in the fact he is LT's son or the fact he is from Krop, where Sabino and Howard are coming from. But Corey will eventually be offered by just about every team in the country and is already sitting on offers from the likes of OSU, USC, Florida and Michigan. To my knowledge, Taylor has not received an official offer yet. On top of that, apparently UNC is very interested and with the combination of Butch Davis and UNC being his father's alma mater, that is where I would put my early money, should they come through with an offer.

Corey is a player I would really like to see in the '09 class but we are going to be in a dogfight. A DL class that includes Adams and Simon would be tremendous...

I'm pretty sure Dumervil is a DE.

I'm shocked that he hasn't received an offer.

He looks to be one of the top players in the nation at his position and is a huge Buckeye fan. It would appear that he might be ours to lose but no offer yet?

I'm hoping this is corrected soon, real soon.
