SAN ANTONIO -- Katy calls itself the "Home of Champions," and the Tigers added another title on Saturday behind running back Aundre Dean.
Dean rushed for 220 yards and a touchdown, leading Katy to its fifth state championship with a 28-7 victory over Pflugerville in the Texas Class 5A Division II final.
The Tigers, the No. 5 team in the ESPN HIGH Elite 25 rankings, completed a perfect 16-0 season as quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell added 142 passing yards and three TD passes at the Alamodome.
But Katy struggled early, needing a Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half to tie the game.
"This was the first time we were ever really challenged," Dean said. "And we weren't even challenged -- we just had to relax."
