'08 PA OL/DL Lucas Nix (Pitt signee)

I know we never had a shot, and I know this sounds like sour grapes.

Believe you me, it isn't intended to come out like that, but I honestly can't see how this kid's a 5-star talent based on what I have seen thus far. He looks very slow on his feet to me. I could be wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time...but I just don't see "stud" written all over this kid.

I don't know how a recruiting service can think Nix is so much better than Adams or Shugarts.

I think he's got potential to be a great plugger/run-stuffer...and I see what you are saying w/r/t the versatility - that had to increase the rating.

The coaches certainly have proved they can evaluate talent (and then some) - so their early offer of Nix had to indicate they valued his services ginormously.

Did quality of competition play a role as well? I know WPA certainly has its share of quality teams, probably moreso than central Ohio.

I only saw tape of him, never seen him in person, but what they say about him is that he is a legit 6'5" 300, has really long arms, and quick feet. He also plays for a former OL from Pitt so he knows technique, and plays for maybe the best AAA program in the state. Throw that all together and you have a really good prospect.

I'll agree with you...I don't think Nix is quite a 5 star player. I think he is top 100 for sure but there are many OL that I've watched that I would take over Nix, including Shugarts, Adams, and Brewster. I honestly wouldn't trade any of those guys for Nix, even before they were commited to OSU. I also like Love, Kalil, T. Smith, Steinkuhler, and Good better, with Patchan, Shaw, and Harmon really close. Now I do really like Nix at DT and would have loved to see us get him as a defender. Either way, this is a very good get for Pitt.
