PIAA wrestling tourney set to begin - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Narrowing choices

Montour running back Christian Wilson, who decommitted from Michigan two weeks ago, says he will sign with Boston College or North Carolina on Wednesday, which is National Letter of Intent day.

Wilson verbally committed to the Wolverines on Aug. 20, but he reopened his recruitment when former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr retired and Rich Rodriguez was hired.

Wilson to North Carolina
Montour's Christian Wilson said he will sign today with North Carolina. Boston College was his other top choice.
Wilson made a verbal commitment to Michigan in August but had second thoughts when Rich Rodriguez became Michigan's coach because he didn't think he fit in Rodriguez's offense.
Wilson (6 feet 3, 230 pounds) was recruited by North Carolina to play H-back, a hybrid between fullback and tight end.
"Coach [Butch] Davis basically said they are going to use me the same way they did Kellen Winslow Jr. and Jeremy Shockey when he was coaching them at Miami," Wilson said. "He said I'm actually bigger and faster than they were when they came in. That got me excited.
"He said Winslow came in at around 210 pounds and running a 4.7 in the 40. I'm coming in around 230 and running a 4.5 flat."
Wilson was recruited by North Carolina offensive coordinator John Shoop, an Oakmont native. Wilson said he hadn't talked to Michigan in weeks.
"North Carolina was recruiting me from the beginning last year," Wilson said. "That's where I heard the H-back position the first time."

PG West: A former Michigan recruit, Montour's Wilson signs with North Carolina
Thursday, February 21, 2008
By Rich Emert, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Lost earlier this month in the continuing saga that is the recruiting of Terrelle Pryor was that Montour High School's Christian Wilson signed a letter of intent with North Carolina.
Wilson, who led the Spartans to the WPIAL Class AAA final and back to respectability, had verbally committed to Michigan and would have signed with the Wolverines if Lloyd Carr and his coaching staff had stayed in place. But Wilson started looking elsewhere when former West Virginia boss Rich Rodriguez was hired to replace Carr.
OK, but why North Carolina?
"They kept in touch," Montour coach Lou Cerro said. "Even after Christian verbally committed [to Michigan], they would call."
Naturally, when the coaching change at Michigan took place, North Carolina called Wilson more often or as often as the coaches there could.
