Toledo, the city thinks she should be part of Michigan and that could explain the Michigan appeal to Toledo kids. Who was the last kid that OSU "really" wanted, had a chance in getting, and lost to Michigan? My memory stinks but it is my own personal opinion that it will come down to winners and losers. To go 0 and 6 over the last three years in your last two games has got to leave a mark that only a little luck can overcome. In the end a winner will pick a winner.

I can assure you that the majority of Toledo would not want to be part of Michigan. That is a perception that is not always as accurate as it seems. You will have several Michigan fans since it is right next to the border. For that matter it's largest suburb is Bedford Township, MI. But in the end this is still mostly a Buckeye town, in my honest opinion.

There is more backing for OSU up there than one might think, though I'm sure there are quite a few that have "jumped on the bandwagon" since Tressel took over. There are spots up there that are definetly more pro-scUM that OSU (Fremont quickly comes to mind). I must say it is fun to wear OSU gear to a bar up there, as you are almost guaranteed to start a conversation up there about college football (lots of OSU/scUM/ND/UToledo fans up there). OSU gear might even be considered somewhat edgy.
Based on geography though, I'd consider OSU the stronger pull up there. As proof, keep in mind Dane Sachenbacher committed to OSU from Toledo Central Catholic last year. Tressel's dominance over "that school up north" has brought Toledo a long way in a short time because of the impact local boy-wonder Charles Woodson had up there and Carr's dominance over Cooper.
In short, we've got just as good a shot at Koger as they do. I just hope he sees the light.

Watson isn't at the same level as either of these kids IMO and everyone else we tried out during the Spring who wasn't named Massey were not very formidable to say the least. And again, we use a ton of multiple TE sets...not just one TE. We make use out of our TEs if we have them. Koger will play if he proves his worth...just like any guy out there, but it's not like we're stacked with a bunch of 5-stars at TE. I mean, Carson Butler was a Rivals 3-star and worked his way up, playing alongside veterans Tyler Ecker and Mike Massey even when they weren't injured. If he wasn't booted, he could've been a star.
Sorry if I sound brash, but I think it's unfair to think Lloyd has to spew out BS in order to convince someone about their depth chart when anyone can just look it up if they really wanted. Backup TE/FB Brian Thompson and TE Tyler Ecker both just graduated, Mike Massey will finish up after this season, Junior Chris McClaurin had a rough spring and his hands were just not there, same was the case with LaTerrel Savoy, Quintin Woods is currently academically ineligible and I have no idea if or when he's arriving on campus, aaaaaaand that's about where it ends on the UM TE depth chart. I can't imagine how/why Coach Carr would need to sell lies with that depth chart.
As for the point about "what we tell our WRs"...again, it's obvious who is in the running at that position. This stuff isn't hard to find, so how would they lie about Manningham, Arrington, Matthews, etc? I just don't get that at all. If you want to come in and compete, if you think you are better than what we've got or wouldn't mind waiting to find out, then come on board. What did Pete Caroll tell all of those All-American RBs when they asked if they would get playing time? I think I can make the assumption that he didn't tell them they were depth-free.

FSU hasn't been a great team as of late, but they still rake in top 5 recruiting classes year after year. So I will respectfully disagree that "in the end winners will pick winners" b/c I believe more often than not, that doesn't play a huge role. This is especially the case with a legendary program. Notre Dame can blow the big one every year (9 and counting) and still rake in top 25 recruiting classes but finish outside of the top 25 in team rankings based on name and tradition. If Koger chooses OSU or UM, it's not based on the success or failure of the rivalry winner/loser. Stuff like that changes every year, and recruits realize that. I believe the most level headed recruits choose the best fit for him based on everything EXCEPT recent successes/failures. That stuff changes all of the time. If Koger is smart, he'll realize that, ignore it, and pick the school that fits his needs/wants the most.

This is just my opinion, but Kevin and the Whitmer Panthers were used to playing the underdog. They did well in the city, beat St John's, lost to Central but did play well into the playoffs beating Massillon and Fremont IRCC in their DI playoff run last year. They were the underdog in many of those games but came out with a win. Kevin Koger was an intergral part of those wins just as Allen and and Dottie (spelling) were in that success. My point being maybe Kevin doesn't want to play for an underdog at the next level, maybe he would prefer playing at tOSu to get away from the underdog mentality. I think (as any new player coming into a new school and program) he wants to play and win because he loves the game. We have wipped Michigan consistently for the past few years and they will be the underdog again this year. Kevin Koger may be on the "edge" of a decision but our staff should know that his decision may be related more to a history lesson than anything else.
This is my spin on the ball. Kevin probably has more pulling him to Ann Arbor than Columbus but with Sanzenbacher paving the way from Toledo this year, the traffic isn't so "one way" coming out of Toledo anymore. The OSU staff, I'm sure, has looked at the level of talent coming from the NW Ohio area and Kevin is one of many that deserve a serious look. The best football program in this area is in Columbus and these kids need to know that one way or the other regardless of how strong the magnetic pull is from the other colleges.
I think this is the key quote in that Blade article. tOSU staff should be all over this kid in the next few weeks or he goes to the school up north. But then again, he may not subscribe to my logic and like the underdog role. This is going to be very interesting.

This kid is good enough to have offers from all over the country. If he played "the recruiting game", politicked for offers, and went to school camps and NIKE/SCOUT combines he would've gotten offered by everybody. He wanted two main offers, he got them, end of story.

I just wanted to add a couple thoughts.
First, I disagree with the UM fans a bit concerning the effect of wins and losses on recruiting success. Specifically, I believe that OSU's recent run of success against UM has made it easier to keep Ohio kids at home and has even allowed us to occassionally go into Michigan and grab a good player. For Ohio kids that are huge OSU fans, this isn't an issue. But, for kids that aren't, it is easier to sell them on coming here when you can make the argument that you are currently the best program in the region. All of the success putting players in the NFL helps also.
Second, I think utgrad is a bit off base on thinking that UM will be the underdog in this year's Game. Obviously a lot can change between now and November, but UM has 4 year starters at QB and RB plus a star LT (Long) and star WR (Manningham). Plus the game is up there. They will likely be favored by 3-7 points.
Third, I think there are some unique factors that might help OSU pull a kid who is a UM fan out of Toledo this year which do not exist every year. The recent on field success is a small factor. The fact that Tressel is here for the long term and Carr is not likely to be there when Koger graduates in 2012 is a bigger factor.
