Midseason Awards
This weekend marks the midpoint of the high school basketball season. It has been an exciting season thus far, with plenty of teams and players in northeast Ohio making a name for themselves.

Without further ado, here are my picks for the area's top teams and players as we prepare for the backstrech of the season.

F Delvon Roe, St. Edward.
Arguably the top sophomore in the state and one of the best in the country, Roe can do a bit of everything on the court and creates major mismatch problems with his height and athleticism.

Great interview with Delvon and his coach by Bill Greene...Coach Flannery says Delvon could end up as the best player he has ever coached (and that is saying something). Delvon seems like a very level-headed and humble kid. He favors Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Louisville and Ohio State, with Illinois being his early favorite.

Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Ohio State, Louisville, North Carolina and Duke are schools he is interested in. Roe has no offers at this point. Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois and Ohio State have been in to see Roe. Delvon says Michigan is recruiting him the "hardest". Will visit tOSU unofficialy for the Illinois game this weekend.

Michigan, Illinois, Michigan State, North Carolina, Duke, Ohio State, and Louisville are in contact. Michigan is recruiting him the "hardest". Roe has taken an unofficial visit to Michigan. Roe plans on attending this weekends OSU game vs Illinois. Roe wants to improve on his perimeter game. Reportedly holds a 3.2 GPA.

Sounds like a great 08' class to go along with Offut.

I'd say that it's definitely possible, I just don't know if there will be enough 'ships to go around... There will be 3 scholarships open after next year (presumably filled by Koufos, Diebler, Lauderdale), and then the year after there will only be 2-3 at this point. Of course this will all change if Oden and or Cook jump to the league early. All this too is assuming that no additional scholarships are lost from the investigtion results.

I think you may only be counting the graduating seniors (Lewis, Mayes and Ivan the Terrible) next year.

But OSU has three unused ships this season. They are graduating four players and bringing in five so that still leaves two unused which gives us up to five ships for the '07 class. In '08 we lose Butler, Terdwiggler and Hunter who will start out as a Junior. That means 8 ships for the next two classes - plus any early departures.

Lotsa room.

I think in Roe's case he has to prove he has a good outside game that includes ball handing, mid-range jumpers, and passing. He is already very good around the hoop and a great leaper, but with all the big men tOSU is in on(Mullens, Lauderdale, Koufou, etc.) Roe will have to be a true wing to receive an offer IMO. The next two summers will be very pivotal for him if he wants to prove himself on the wing (St. Eds uses him on the inside, he doesnt seem to play very much on the perimeter).
