At 6-8, 225-lbs. Ohio PF Yancy Gates is physically a man amongst boys. Though he is only heading into his sophomore year, he has already drawn attention from many of the top programs in the country. The Buckeyes have already extended an offer to Scout.com's #1 PF and Michigan has joined them in showing a great deal of interest. Gates recently visited Ann Arbor and GoBlueWolverine caught up with he and his dad to get their impressions.

Academics is very important to Gates' father. Gates patterns his game after Kevin Garnett. He reportedly enjoyed his visit to Michigan.

let's assume that the staff would first like to land Kosta and Lauderdale...would they still take Gates after that? with Kosta playing the 5 and Lauderdale being a 4/5, maybe the staff would like to bring in Gates as a pure 4, especially if we end up with either a JUCO 4 in this class or no 4 at all (if Morgan heads to MSU).

wadc....make no mistake........the top two targets for Matta in this class are 1. Lauderdale and 2. Kosta..........when OSU lands both of these players, I don't think that Gates gets an offer. It might be a numbers game at that stage, the wildcard is what Morgan does.

I still have a hard time believeing they would take Gates in '08 if they just took Kosta and Lauderdale in '07 and are getting Mullens in '08. I agree with your view 44820...if they lock up the top 2, then Gates probably does not have an offer.
