'08 OH OL Zebrie Sanders (FSU signee)

Well I mean obviously he thought the D-Line jumped offside.

Some schools coach their linemen to not move out of their stance if they suspect there's offsides.

I understand, but wouldn't he wait just a second, then go from there?

I have no idea why he remained in his stance that long.

they've done that at FSU a couple times this year. If they think the D is offsides, they've been told to not move. It's incredibly stupid on the part of whoever is coaching them, as that play proves. If the D is offisides, you get a free play......so why not help your QB scrambling for his life against the best D in college? If the D isn't offsides, you look like a total idiot and your QB is still scrambling for his life against the best D in college.

I've been waiting all season for somebody smarter than me to explain any advantage to the OLine doing this.

From watching FSU a couple times this year, the entire line stays in their stances until the QB comes by and tells them they can get up. I know it's to emphasize that the other team is the one who jumped, but I think it's pretty stupid for 2 reasons:

1. What happened in the video a few posts ago.
2. You are pretty much eliminating any chance of completing a long pass on a free play. On one occasion during the Florida game, they had a receiver wide open 20-25 yards downfield. Obviously, the QB had absolutely no time to get him the ball, or to even notice him, for that matter, because he had 4 unblocked defensive lineman in his face.

Maybe some of you guys who have been around the game more than me can point out some of the other benefits of doing this, but it just seems pretty foolish to me.

Edit: 27 beat me to it. I swear I didn't read your post and just put it in my own words

here's another video of them doing it.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10zVKdOZ2rg"]YouTube - Florida State's Offensive Line is disciplined. They won't budge on an offsides.[/ame]

edit: the audio doesn't match the video, so don't even bother listening.

Besides Sanders, the Buckeye staff also passed on Luke Kuechly, Whitney Mercius, and Jerel Worthy, all of whom might also go in the first round of the 2012 draft.

Ohio will be well represented in the draft, but Worthy and Sanders were the main "misses" imo. Keuchly and Mercilus were both under the radar types and understandable to have not seen. The Sanders miss was truly inexcusable considering the position and talent level.

Reminder of what we won't be missing with the old staffs recruiting theories on offensive tackles. It was insane to have never offered Zebrie. Good luck in the draft though.

Not trying to defend all the decisions made by the staff, OL is tough to predict.
Thinking back on the offers given back then and a talent-loaded class, seemed like many of us thought Sanders deserved that last scholarship rather than holding it for a mercurial Jeanette PA, athlete who had some skills but would never make it as a QB in college.
In 2008, OSU did offer and sign 3 offensive tackle prospects rated by rivals.
#1 OT Mike Adams
#4 OT Mike Brewster
#11 OT J B Shugarts

tOSU also offered OG Josh Jenkins who signed with WVU
Many were upset that JT chose to drop Devoe Torrence.

Sanders was ranked #15 OT.
