'08 OH LB Justin Staples

Outside linebacker
Lakewood (OH) St. Edwards
Ht: 6-foot-3
Wt: 210 lbs
Forty: 4.65 secs
Bench max: 260 pounds
Squat max: 300 pounds
GPA: 3.2
Class: 2008 (High School)

Justin is interested in tOSU, Michigan, ND, Minnesota, Syracuse, Pitt and Boston College. Most schools are projecting him at OLB, but Michigan is recruiting him as a WR.

Justin should end up being bigger than Gibson. He's already about the same size and he's got 2 years of HS left. Was a varsity reserve last year at DE. Impressive athlete who will also play LB this year. Didn't play any WR for the varsity, but I know he practiced at WR some and looked promising. Also played forward on JV basketball team... likely won't make varsity this year in basketball.

Any possibility he will grow out of the linebacker position? It will be interesting to see how Justin developes in the next two years. One things for sure, he's got good size (especially for a Sophomore), and you can't teach that.

Justin was indeed lined up as a starting OLB in St. Edward's 3-4 defense this past Saturday in the Mentor scrimmage. Looked like he was still getting his feet wet at a new position, but it was hard not to be impressed with him. With guys like Nate Oliver and Diauntae Morrow out there, Staples is the kid your eyes are drawn to. When you see a 6'3, 220lb kid lining up against a WR on one play, a TE the next, and an OT the play after that, it's hard not to get excited about his potential.

I still think there is a great chance that he has DE in his future, but either at OLB or DE this kid is a top 5 talent in Ohio. I would like to see him get an offer sooner rather than later, but they could wait to see him at camp or a combine...

Also on a side note I wonder if snagging Staples could help with getting Roe...
