'08 MI RB Jonas Gray (Notre Dame signee)

Great looking prospect for his size, but after having some bruising backs (even Pitt for his size could run people over)...like corners, I have to say I like them in a bigger mold ala C.Wells, MoC, Pitt...

I just can't get into the short backs. Hart, even though a tough runner, to me will never be a GREAT back. I can't explain it...just prefer the bigger bodies to run through people and hopefully past them too.

Michigan's reason for targeting him could be two-fold...because he is a versatile looking athlete and because he is from the Detroit public school system, where UM needs to do some serious damage control.

Michigan has offered 3 kids in-state so far Boubacar Cissoko, Dann O'Neill, and Fred Smith. They are looking at Charles Burrell (Smith's teammate) and some of the Muskegon kids as well. Gray doesn't have an offer yet and I wouldn't expect him to get one for awhile.

I think they are going to go after bigger fish in the 2008 class before offering Gray, and there is a RB in-state in the class of 2009 who might be the best HS back in-state since Grady. His name is Hersey Jackson from Allendale High. He's listed at 6'2, 205, definetly looks the part. He's also an accomplished track athlete with a personal best of 10.9 in the 100m. You might be thinking 10.9, that's not exactly blazing- but again he's 6'2 200+ pounds and he's only a sophomore.

I think Hersey Jackson is going to be one for OSU fans to look out for in the future as well as Dion Sims (6-5, 230) of Orchard Lake St. Mary's because both of them are going to be among the most highly recruited football prospects the state has ever seen. Jackson and Sims will have national offers pouring in just like Johnson and Allen. They're going to get offers from just about everybody, in Sims case it'll depend on what sport he wants to play, basketball or football, because I've seen him listed among the Top50 prospects in his class for basketball.

From the UM site...MSU and Colorado have offered. He talks about being at the UM Junior Day. ND is falling down his list rapidly and his top 5 now includes Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa and Penn State.

Jonas had a very good showing at the Army All-American JR Combine down in San Antonio. People thinking he's "Kevin Grady" lite are off-base IMO. He's a much better athlete than Grady. However, he's a better athlete than he is football player IMO.

These were his numbers at the JR combine in San Antonio:

Height: 5'9.5"
Weight: 214 pounds
40 yard: 4.53
Shuttle: 4.28
Bench: 17 reps
Vertical: 35.5"

Keep in mind he's only a junior and that the 40 times down in SA at the Jr AA combine are always on the slower side. They run the 40 yard dash on the fieldturf and that is known as a "slow" surface. For instance at this years combine out of 400+ kids only 9 kids cracked the sub 4.5 barrier and only 24 with sub 4.55 times. I think if Jonas was running at say one of those Nike camps that his time would've been in the 4.4's easy. Jonas was named to the 1st team All-Combine team, no question about his athletic ability.

I think the questions are about his football ability, and he still doesn't hold a Michigan offer.
