'07 SC WR Junior Hemingway (Michigan signee)

Junior is the #1 WR prospect in SC IMO. Mark Barnes is the #1 safety prospect, but he's not a better WR prospect than Junior. Junior is up there with Deonte Thompson, Arrelious Benn, Greg Little, and Toney Clemons as the elite WR's in the entire nation.

*Notre Dame football coach meets with Conway High star
Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weiss visited Conway High School yesterday to recruit star wide receiver Jr. Hemingway. Weiss met with the teen, but said he could not talk about prospects or have his picture made for the newspaper because it violates NCAA rules.

Hemingway, who has offers from more than 20 major colleges, did not commit to the Irish during the visit. He plans to visit the South Bend, Ind., school in the coming weeks along with Florida and Ohio State. He visited Florida State during the 2005 season, and made a trip to Michigan this past summer. He is very familiar with South Carolina, having made several unofficial trips to the University when his first cousin and former Conway standout Andrea Gause played there.

According to Hemingway’s father Kenny Hemingway Sr., his son has offers from most of the SEC and ACC schools including USC, Clemson, LSU, Maryland, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Duke, Virginia and Mississippi State.

The 6-feet, 2-inch, 205-pound prospect has a list of five favorites in his room, but hasn’t revealed it to the public. His father said he doesn’t know who is on the list.

“I told him I’ll be satisfied wherever you go,” Hemingway said. “You have to make your own decision.”

A tri-sports star at CHS, Hemingway earned the attention of college recruiters as a sophomore when he played receiver and quarterback. He burst on to the national scene this past year when he played primarily wide receiver.

According to CHS Coach Chuck Jordan, Hemingway averaged 16.27 yards per catch in 2005 when he caught 52 passes for 846 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He intercepted four passes despite seeing action at defensive back in only three games.

In addition to college recruiters, prospects that have already committed to various schools are trying to convince Hemingway to become one of their future teammates. Byrnes quarterback Will Korn is trying to convince Hemingway to join him at Clemson, while star runningback Gonzie Gray of Waldorf, Md., is trying to do the same for USC.

Hemingway said it’s likely he’ll make a decision after completing his visits, and before the 2006 season starts.

CHS will begin spring practice Monday.

Notre Dame went 9-3 in 2005, dropping a 34-20 verdict to Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.
