Edmonds rushing into local spotlight

Tuesday, August 15, 2006
From staff reports
St. Edward senior tailback Frank Edmonds is continuing to make lasting impressions.
Edmonds, who emerged on the area high school scene last season by rushing for 2,036 yards and 22 touchdowns, again displayed exceptional balance and vision as he darted through the holes provided by the Eagles' line last weekend during a scrimmage against Mentor.
Edmonds appeared stronger and faster than he was last year.

"Oh yeah, I've worked a lot on improving both," said the 5-8, 187-pound Edmonds at a recent practice. "I have been doing a lot of agility drills and I'm running hills to improve my burst."
St. Edward plans to utilize Edmonds' quickness more this season, such as getting the ball to him in space with screens. Eagles offensive coordinator Tom Lombardo is excited about what he believes will be one of the deepest offenses in the school's history.
"This is as talented a skilled group as I have ever had," said Lombardo, who guided Lake Catholic to the Division III state championship in 2001. "It is a very experienced group."

COMMITMENTS

Edmonds, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards in 2005 and more than 1,200 yards this fall, accounted for 39 touchdowns in his two years as a starter. The 5-8, 187-pound two-time all-district honoree averaged better than 6 yards a carry during his varsity career.
"The [Ball State] coaching staff is great; it's like a big family down there," said Edmonds. "I'll have a great opportunity to compete for a starting spot. I feel like the program there is growing, they're going to be really good next year."

What exactly happened here? I read an article a while back in the Bucknuts magazine that said he was basically a sure bet to be at Ohio State next year....???

It's pretty simple...this is a small class this year and Frank did not receive an offer from OSU.

G-Force, both Rivals and Scout still show him to Ball State so if you could provide a link, that would be great.

I don't have a link, but I heard he was at our basketball game on Saturday and gave a verbal commitment to us. When/if I find one, I will post it.

Ball State football signs the tailback it targeted

MUNCIE -- In the midst of a whirlwind bus tour of college football camps last summer, Frank Edmonds's experience at Ball State stood out.
Edmonds, a tailback who is one of the most highly acclaimed players on Ball State's recruiting list, couldn't get Ball State off his mind after the trip. He committed to the Cardinals in December, and made it official Wednesday by becoming one of 24 players to sign a national letter-of-intent to play at Ball State in the fall.
"I started looking hard at Ball State after the camp," said Edmonds, from St. Edward High School in Cleveland. "I think the camp had a lot to do with me doing a lot of research on the team and picking Ball State. It made it easier."
