'07 OH QB Clay Belton (Miami of Ohio Signee)

I have played against Evans and spoke with others who have played against him and nobody even remembers who he is. MU's best player was at RB, then at WR. I wasn't impressed and Belton is much tougher to go against. Belton is a good player but #3 is way too high. To be honest, I think some could argue that he may not be a top 10 player in the state.

I have personally talked to several scouts and coaching staffs that would disagree with you. How tough a QB is to "go against" is not really a good measure of how succesful they will be in college. Evans is clearly the better athlete and I (and several others who do this for a living) would be shocked if he didn't leave several camps this summer with an offer.

RB is wrong on this one... Evans is clearly the best player on Milton's team. He's the best player that Milton has had in a long time (excluding when I played for the Bulldogs that is ). The RB and WR (Deeter and Battiston were their names) all keyed off of Evans running the offense. Evans has shattered all the passing records, and he is only a junior. Up until recently, I thought that Evans was a better DB prospect, but I am starting to come around about him at QB.
As far as who I like better between Belton or Evans, to me it depends on the system. I have seen both play several times. Belton is a pocket guy (whom we already have two of) with a strong arm. Evans is a dual-threat guy (whom I think fits well in tOSU's scheme) with a good arm, quick feet, and great accuracy. I like Belton and Evans both, but I think #3 is way too high for Belton. He may be the #1 QB in OH, but I don't believe a QB is in the top ten in OH at this point during the recruiting season...

I guess we have to agree to disagree because when my coach talked to a coach that was preparing to play MU, the coach said they were worried about that big RB and Battison. When we were at 7 on 7's he didn't really do that much and when we watched film on MU, he didn't stand out as much as the others I mentioned. Now I've only seen him play 3 times so maybe those days were just sub-par for him and that's all I can come up with for a discrepancy in opinion. Now I did think Evans looked good on defense though.

As of now, that is where he is likely leaning. He likes their system for QB's. Another good year for Belton without throwing to Watkins and Coleman and he may get some Big 10 offers.

I would bet that at this point in time, the MAC is more well known for quarterbacks than the Big 10. No offense to the Big 10, because they certainly trump the MAC on every other position, but not QB. Not if they want to play at the next level.

I've heard Belton may be a MAC caliber QB... but certainly could play in the Big 10.

Yes, the MAC does put out some good talent at QB. However, most of the QB's that go to the MAC aren't usually offered by Big Ten schools and select a MAC school. No knock on the MAC at all because they do develop some good QB's and you do have to be pretty good to get a MAC offer. Belton would be ideal for a MAC type of offense and Miami would get a great player in Belton.

It is quite appealing (in many ways) to play football in the Big 10. However, I think top high school QB's need to take a hard look at the MAC if they are serious about playing at the next level. The offensive schemes and abundant playing time have proven that you can maximize your pro potential playing for a Miami, BG, Toledo, Akron, or Marshall.

As for Miami, we have proven that we can compete and win recruiting battles with the Middle-to-lower tier Big 10 teams for players at all positions. We do every year. Several guys on the current roster had offers from Purdue, Minny, NW, Indiana, MSU, etc. Not to mention schools like WVU, Kentucky, Syracuse, Cincinnati (who we beat quite often).

High School Football Season Kicks Off: Northmont Wins, Wayne loses

The Northmont Thunderbolts led by senior quarterback Clay Belton shut out Chaminade Julienne at Welcome Stadium on Thursday night 31 to 0.

Belton completed 19 of 25 passes for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns. The 'Bolts scored on the opening drive of the game and built up a 14 to nothing lead by the end of the first quarter.

The game was Andy Helms debut as the new head football coach at Chaminade Julienne.

In other action, the Wayne Warriors lost to defending divsion one state champion St. Xavier on Thursday night 52 to 14. The game will be the final athletic event in the Huber Heights public school district until a teachers strike is over.
