I recorded and just watched his interview on the espn recruiting show last night. There was obviously no commitment. Ben discussed "the game" and a little bit about his decision making process.

He discussed what a great game it was and how he has been to tOSU a number of times before and wants to take an offical there so he can get to know some of the other recruits. He mentioned that early playing time was important to him and he would probably make a decision in Jan but it could be Feb.

fwiw, during the interview he also mentioned that he hasn't really talked to Coach T. and his staff. this statement came as a shocker to me; all along i thought there is always a steady stream of communication between tOSU and martin.

Ben Martin not playing

Ben Martin will not play basketball for La Salle this year, coach Dan Fleming told me today.

"It's just a coach's decision. It's between Ben and I," said Fleming, who declined to elaborate.

Martin averaged 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds a game last year for the Lancers and was a strong inside presence at 6-foot-5. His future is in football, where Ohio State and Notre Dame are among the leaders for his services as a defensive end.

La Salle should still be among the area's top baketball teams this year, with Bobby Austin and UC commitment Danny McElroy the top returning players.

Is it likely that Ben Martin will enroll early at the school of his choice? Sorry if this has been covered before.

Possible...he is not playing basketball but is attending the US Army All-American game. Rob Rose was able to participate in that game and still enroll early so maybe Ben is planning on doing the same. That may have something to do with him deciding not to play basketball.

The decision not to play basketball was not his own. Lasalle's coach kicked him off the team because he missed a scrimmage or two for recruiting visits after they had sat down and had a discussion regarding what he could or could not miss-which Ben proceeded to ignore. Rumor has it that Lasalle's players are lobbying hard for him to be reinstated though, so he may end up playing basketball after all.
