'07 IL RB Robert Hughes (Notre Dame signee)

Unlikely...they are looking to take two backs in this class, according to my ND friend. The only backs they have offered that are still on the board are Allen, Hughes, Golden Tate, Jahvid Best and Antwain Easterling. Best will likely stay West and Easterling will likely stay South. That leaves Tate, Allen and Hughes.

I thought Union said quite a while ago that Tate was there number 1 target...

Tate waited forever for that ND offer and after getting the scores he needed on his tests, he got that ND offer. They look like his dream school. So that gives them Tate and Allen leaving Hughes as an Illini OSU battle. That would make the three top Illinois prospects choosing between OSU and Illinois.

Off topic for just a second...

It's cute how every year a team's fans jump up because they have a little bit of recruiting momentum because of one or two big time guys. This year it seems to be Illinois (Benn), Colorado (Ryan Miller), Rutgers (Manny Abreu) and UNC (Dwight Jones and Paulus). Last year it was Ole Miss (Jerrell Powe and Brent Schaeffer), Alabama (Andre Smith and Mike Ford) and Pittsburgh (Dorin Dickerson and Aaron Smith), in 2005 it was Iowa (Doering and Moeakai), Oregon (Snoop Stewart) and Wisconsin (Travis Beckum and Elijah Hodge) and in 2004 it was Michigan State (Roland Martin and SirDarean Adams), Maryland (George Covington and Carlos Feliciano) and Wasington (Matt Tuiasosopo and Keaunta Bankhead). The real trick is keeping your coach around long enough to sustain that kind of momentum over several years, much like JT and his staff have done.

Given that criteria I wouldn't put Wisconsin in with that group.

Alvarez is the one coach outside of the Big Two who maintained success over a respectable period of time.
