One of the top cornerbacks in all of South Florida as a junior in 2005, Van Dyke will be tough to throw on as a senior. He finished the 05 season with 30 tackles and three picks. He'll be one of the fastest players in this year's class.

2005 Defensive Stats: 32 tackles 3 TFLs 1 sack 3 INTs 9 pass breakups 2 fumble recoveries

Interested in Florida, Miami (FL), Auburn, Georgia, NC State, Ohio State, Michigan, Rutgers, Florida State and Florida International.

The roots Tressel has established in Florida are incredible. You never heard all of these guys hoping for Ohio State offers before Tressel arrived. It seems Tressel is really focusing on Michigan and the south this year instead of east coast states like Maryland last year.

Way to point out the obvious.

My post was in response to an implication that Tressel may focus on a state just to establish a bigger in-road, and was to counteract that point by saying that talent, and not simply establishing a recruiting presence in a particular state/area, is the driving force behind where we recruit.

12. Demarcus Van Dyke, CB, 6-1, 160, Miami (Pace)
He burst onto the scene last year with a strong junior season but then proved that he's one of the state's fastest players this spring. His combination of size (6-foot-1) and speed (4.35) makes him a very impressive prospect. His best football is far ahead of him.

LOCAL LEANINGS
Some things concerned Miami Monsignor Pace High cornerback/wide receiver DeMarcus VanDyke, too.
VanDyke, a 6-0, 161-pound speedster who runs a 4.3-second 40-yard dash, said he intends to take other recruiting trips.
''I'm still committed to the Canes, but I'm going to take some visits to see what's out there and see if I made the right decision,'' said VanDyke, a four-star athlete. ``I watched the Louisville game at home. I was disappointed because it looked like they were just quitting out there. The whole second half they just gave up.
``I was kind of shocked, but at the same time it gave me motivation that I could play there as a true freshman.''
VanDyke said he also is interested in Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and Wisconsin.
