'07 AL WR/CB Phelon Jones (LSU Verbal)

Scout.com four-star cornerback Phelon Jones, from Mobile-McGill-Toolen, is reconsidering his verbal commitment to Miami. The turmoil in Coral Gables this season ranging from their close wins over sub-par teams, to rumors of coaching changes, and the brawl against FIU witnessed across the country has Jones looking at other schools after his verbal ?lock" to the Hurricanes earlier in the season.

?They always have a good team," Phelon Jones said about Alabama last week. ?The last couple years they?ve had a real good defense. My main position in college is going to be defense. They are close to home, and it would be good fit for me."

Jones is also considering Auburn, LSU, Ohio State and Virginia Tech.

Phelon Jones not de-committed, says father
The Tuscaloosa News reported that Phelon Jones (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen) had re-opened his recruitment. Craig Haubert spoke with Jones' father to clear the air about his current situation with the Canes.
"He is not de-committed," Jones father Phelon said about his son. "He has developed a relationship with the present coaching staff. In the event they get fired, he wants to be able to weight his options."
It appears Jones is still interested in being a Hurricane, but wants to make sure he has a plan in place in case things don't work out to his liking.
"What if the Miami people keep him and every year down there they talk about firing him? That is a bit of a worry also," said the elder Jones.
Some programs that they will be looking at are Auburn, Ohio State, LSU, Florida, Virginia Tech and Michigan.
Though Phelon is looking at options, his father made one thing clear.
"Don't make any mistake now, we love coach Coker and his staff."

Not to be negative, but I was going to include Phelon in my film review until I realized I couldn't really find anything positive to say. Most of the clips of him are at QB, where he will never play in college. The clips that do show him on defense so pretty poor technique and see him being bailed out either my another teammate or the sideline. Maybe if I see some film of him from his senior year I will change my mind, but I am kind of glad that he is sticking with his commitment to the Canes.

Let me say I am suprised by this. I think Phelon is a very smooth athlete. I do like him better on the offense side of the ball at WR, but he has a great size and speed combo.

Maybe we were watching different film as we usually agree on silm review...I was focusing on Phelon as a DB because that is where many Miami gurus think he will end up. His technique was borderline atrocious in the clips I saw. There is no denying his combination of size and speed, but I did not see what I would consider a very good football player.

Well I watched all of his rivals clips and then the short DB scout clips.

I do agree that his technique on D isnt the greatest and he isnt the greatest tackler from the corner spot, but a couple of the breaks he had on the rivals clips where he took the ball the other way, he was very quick out of his back pedal to his break on the ball.
