'06 OH OL Joe Thomas (Pitt Verbal)

I agree with Grad 100%.

If you look at the situation
  • tOSU coaches thought they were in good shape
  • Wells and the other recruits visiting this weekend thought he was going to be a buck
  • Joe said himself that he was going to stick with his commitment to Pitt "for now"
If I connect the dots my guess is that he and his dad are not 100% sure of tOSU commitment. JT told him to go check out Pitt and make sure that OSU is where he wants to be.

That would logically explain all of the mixed messages we are seeing.

Just a hunch.

Good hunch! How many coaches in the country will do what JT does...what a class act. Petey/Carr on the other hand, would have discouraged kids to visit other schools. JT wants these kids to do this so that they will know that they have made the right decision and feel "comfortable" about where they will spent their next four years of college life. Heck, for all we know, Petey might have told Fred Davis to leave town in the middle of the night!

The sticking point to this recruitment is--- Why opt to take a visit to tOSU, and continue to have constant dialogue with the staff if you are 100% committed to Pitt? I have followed recruting for years, and these types of recruitments usually end with a late switch, at least it seems that way to me.

Agreed...although it seems Bob Lichtenfels does not want to admit that possibility. Word is that the last interview on Scout was skewed to make his verbal seem solid when the truth is the door is still open for tOSU.

I really hate it when reporters slant their recruiting articles. Now if Thomas does decide to switch it is going to make him look worse b/c of how he slanted the article.

It is kind of like last year when there was the article that Animal Jr. had committed to Minny and he denies that he was ever verbally committed to them.

Lichtenfels always seems pretty solid to me. If I remember correctly Lichtenfels is a big Pitt fan. If I were Thomas it would be hard for me to tell someone who is a big Pitt fan that I would prefer to play at OSU.

Well he knows his Big East and Pennsylvania recruiting, but in all honesty I believe Thomas was just telling him that he was still verbaled to Pitt and wasnt going to change his mind until he got to talk to the Pitt coaches.

Oh no doubt about Bob...maybe I came across wrong here. I'm not questioning his integrity here, but I am questioning his loyalty to the Pitt program. I don't believe I have seen one post where Bob admits the possibility of tOSU. It is fine for Bob to have an opinion (and a wish), but when that opinion starts slanting your reporting, it may be time to step back a bit.

I called him on that in a PM... Let's just say that he was extremely defensive. I've had numerous interactions with Bob, the two of us get along well, and he is a stand up guy all the way. But he does have deep loyalties to Pitt. I believe that he is even an alum (don't quote me on that).

I agree but Alex Daniels from brookhaven who went to Minnesota did the same thing last year, he constantly said he was firm to Minny, and actually came to campus and met with staff within a couple days of signing day just to talk. Still ended up at Minnesota. I don't understand it either.

If you go over to the Pitt site and read what Bob says, it has a very different tone than when he posts on BN.

He is an "impartial" eastern recruiting expert for the BN crowd.

But on the Pitt site he acts like he is one of them.

Big difference.

He clearly bleeds Pitt colors, and there is nothing wrong with that. I just do not trust him when it comes to Pitt in the same way Lemming is to ND.
