A few thoughts on this somewhat unusual recruitment:
Aaron Brown is going to be a star offensive lineman. His body has not yet matured but he has a great frame and most S&C coaches would jump at the chance to shape his body when he gets into a top notch D1 weight room. His technique and tenacity are not yet elite (and that's where the enticing prospect of his upside comes in) but that will come with time as he matures and figures out how good he can be. He's not as far along as Connor Smith at this juncture but that doesn't mean he can't develop into a stud in 2-3 years.
As for the official visit for the Texas game, I hope the Browns have factored into account the magnitude of that game (biggest non-conf. game since Notre Dame in '95) and the strain that preparing for that game placed on the coaching staff's time and energy. If anything, that should prove that the Buckeye coaches are focused on winning big games more than anything. If big games were simply an environment to host big recruiting weekends rather than focus on winning the game, mediocre programs like NC State, Florida (under Zook), and Pitt would be ideal for blue-chip recruits.
Finally, do you think the coaching staff has had some trepidation because of the parallels between Aaron Brown's recruitment and Derek Morris' a few years ago? Namely, the over-involvement of the student-athlete's parent/family. While I'm sure all of us want what's best for our kids, we sometimes need to draw the line as to what our involvement as parents are. Are we looking out for the best for our kids, or are we attempting to live vicariously through them while not giving them the best possible guidance? That's something a lot of parents grapple with at one point or another in their lives.
However this turns out, good luck to Aaron. He is a fine young man and he will succeed wherever he goes. If it is a good fit for both sides, hopefully that means the Bucks!
