'06 OH LB Cobrani Mixon (Michigan signee - Kent State transfer)

This is the other recruit who's ranking in DL's list of 2006 talent surprised me. DL has him all the way down at #61. Like with others, I'm sure previous injuries has a little to do with this, but that still seems a bit low for a kid with a Michigan offer in hand...
I am telling you it has to do with the knee injury...which is all better. He has been running at full speed for a few weeks now and his knee was sound enough that he participated in a tug o war at a West Side community event on Saturday with several other high schools from the area.

I didn't get a chance to talk to him other then to ask about his knee, but a current teammate told me that Cobra would commit today to OSU if the Buckeyes offered him. He really wants to wear the Scarlet and Gray.

This is very good news if true. My guess is he will probably have to go to camp to get his offer, and if he does go and he does get that offer he would then commit. This would be a very good thing on two levels. One, tOSU would have a very good and athletic MLB. Second, if he and Connor Smith go to Ohio State then maybe we can break up the Colerain scUM mini-pipeline they've got going because Colerain is usually producing good talent that we would most definately love to keep in state.

This kid could be a sleeper, and hopefully will have a breakout year now that he's healthy.
Regardless, it is awesome to rebuild the burned bridges at Colerain...

Cobrani is number 33. This picture was taken during the regional final this past year versus Moeller. Keep in mind that Cobrani was playing with a partial tear of his ACL. The kid is as tough as they come. I have not been able to talk to the teammate that told me that Cobra would commit to OSU as soon as he got an offer to follow up. But my source told me that Cobrani was very excited to get the offer from OSU and that he was rethinking his decision. Apparently, Cobra had resigned himself to the fact that OSU was not going to offer so he had removed them from the equation...

FY:
Also, for future reference, Number 1 in this picture is Colerain's free safety from last season, Eugene Clifford. Gene was only a sophomore last year and, very well, could be Colerain's all time highest recruited player for the 07 class.

And, if I'm not mistaken, Clifford will be running the option as QB this year, right H&G?

Exciting stuff going on down on the West Side! If Cobra comes to the Bucks, then we are just about done with LB'ers this year. Focus will be on Young, and maybe not anybody else. That would be great to get recruiting of a position down so early...however, based on all of the voices going around Cobrani, I have to temper my enthusiasm for an imminent verbal a bit. This could be a bit of a battle. Another showdown with TSUN. Hope this is a blowout, too.

Hab,

I think it is wise to temper the enthusiasm. I do know that Cobra likes OSU and TSUN and I do believe it will come down to those two and LSU.

Clifford is in the running for the QB spot for next season with two other qualified players. Gene's value to Colerain's defense might be to much to move him to QB, however, if one of the other players proves worthy. Either way, the Colerain offense returns 3 (two of which have D1 offers right now; Smith and Eric Ornella) starting offensive linemen, two returning running backs and a wealth of depth. The QB will not have to be as good as Goodman to make another run at state.

H&G-

Any idea of who Clifford likes early on? I thought he was one of the top 3 players I saw on the Colerain D last year (with Byrd and Revels), and from what I hear, he probalby will be the most recruited player to play there, like you said.

Great call H&G.
:wink2:

Thanks, osugrad. I try to get my info confirmed before I post it so I can avoid being a 'rumor starter'. I am not exactly sure when Cobra got the offer, but I had heard the rumor last Thrusday.

Westbuck,

I do not have much info on Clifford right now because I have been concentrating on the Seniors (Smith, Mixon, Tyler Moeller-who is camping at Iowa this weekend and Eric Ornella-Who just received an offer to Duke)...But I do know that Gene is a talent unlike anything Colerain has had in generations. Size, speed, skill, nose for the ball...the kid has it all. When I get something on him, I will be sure to pass it along to you.

Cobrani discusses the Buckeye offer. tOSU is now in his top 5. He hopes to decide this summer.
Wow, H&G and Bob are on it today.

The more I look at this kid, the more I love the offer. He has great size for the middle and if his speed is correct, I say right on. That could be a nice package coming from Colerain this year between Smith and Mixon. Might also reopen the door to Cincy - Peterson looks to be making some nice endroads there now.
