Another Transfer?
USC defensive tackle Walker Lee Ashley has left the football program and is trying to decide whether to return.
``He left,?? USC coach Pete Carroll said. ``I?m not sure if he?s coming back. It?s not finalized. I did talk to his dad and we?re trying to figure out the best thing for him.??
Ashley denied earlier this month he would transfer to Minnesota, which is where he was raised.
``I have no idea where it came from,?? Ashley said. ``I?m cool right here. It was all just rumors.??
Look for former Eden Prairie defensive lineman Walker Lee Ashley Jr., who reneged on a Gophers commitment, then left Southern California, to end up at Penn State, his father's alma mater. Walker Lee Ashley, an All-American defensive end on Penn State's 1982 national championship team, played linebacker for the Vikings.
Walker Ashley, the former Eden Prairie football player who originally committed to Southern California, then changed his mind to Minnesota, then went back to USC and now has left school, told SI.com that he will talk to the new Gophers coaching staff but he might go to a Division I-AA school where he wouldn't have to sit out a year as a transfer. Glen Mason's staff had turned him down after he left USC.
