Jefferson was named
all-state as a junior after racking up 113 tackles, 55 of those tackles were solo and he had 5 sacks.

Four-year varsity starter. Jefferson is the son of Kankakee head coach Ira Jefferson. Dustin is a very good athlete that has played defensive end and tight end for most of his high school career. He's being recruited as an athlete but projects as a linebacker or safety. Dustin had 113 tackles, 55 solo tackles and 5 sacks as a junior.

Coaches Comments: - Dustin is tremendously quick coming off the edge. He's had the advantage of being around the game his entire life because of me and he understands the game of football. I can play Dustin at any position on the field and I wouldn't get hurt. He's the best player I've ever coached. One college recruiter said that Dustin reminded him of Leonard Little - Kankakee coach Ira Jefferson.

He is getting hand written mail from most of his favorites(no tOSU). Jefferson visited Champaigne and Iowa City this weekend. He had agood time talking with the coaches at Iowa and Illinois. He will be attending Junior Days at Purdue and Northwestern in the upcoming weeks. He projects as an OLB, and has a 3.0 GPA.

Linebacker Dustin Jefferson out of Kankakee, (Ill.) will be a Midwest “Hot 100” prospect in 2005. Jefferson has received early interest from schools in every major D-1 conference. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder, recently received his first scholarship offer. Dustin has been offered by Illinois. He is listing Iowa, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Purdue and Ohio State.

Ohio St., Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin are his top schools with Ohio State and Illinios leading.

Perfect example on how kids change their minds all the time. Up in post #3 above, he said on Feb 23 that he "favors Notre Dame, Iowa, Illinois and Tennessee". Just over two months later we go from not even being in his favorites to being the leader.

By Chris Pool Midwest Recruiting Analyst
Date: Apr 29, 2005

We’ve already taken a look at the top performers from the Champaign combine, held last Saturday on the campus of the University of Illinois. Tomorrow, Scout.com, rolls into Auburn, Ala., for our next combine stop. Before we preview Auburn, let’s take a look at a few sleepers from Champaign that we’ll be keeping a close eye on in 2005.

1. DE Dustin Jefferson, 6-1, 205, Kankakee, Illinois

Jefferson isn’t much of a sleeper. He already has some scholarship offers under his belt, including one from Illinois. The reason Jefferson is on this sleeper list is because of how he performed last weekend. Dustin competed against prospects 100-pounds heavier than he was and he dominated with his quickness. Jefferson was all business last weekend and he’s going to have a huge senior season.

Jefferson must really be a player because his measurable are less than ideal for a DE...6' 0.5" 210 lbs w/ a 4.7

I am pleasantly surprised to see us making waves in IL this year, there is generally a lot of talent in that state.
