'06 FL WR Greg Mathews (Michigan signee)

I can't remember an OOS recruit whose mother was so pro-OSU as Greg Mathews. Would he really make her watch him play in tsun for 4 years knowing how much she loves OSU? That might sound silly, but it has to have entered his mind a time or two.

I couldn't imagine any of my children doing that to me.
I couldn't cheer for the team.
Couldn't do it.
So she's going to attend games at scUM in scarlet and grey.
Bet her son is going to appreciate how she will be treated.
I know that none of my siblings would have done that to my father.
At worst we would have chosen a neutral school, but not the biggest rival.
We do have some on Bucks who's fathers played for scUM though.

IMHO, I would not agree with that. Look for some movement maybe today or tomm.

Glad to hear we are not out of it with him. It just seemed the recent news was not very positive for us-- but that is why I come here; to hear from those more informed than I.

Good to have a place like BP to come for recruiting info without turning this place into a subscription zone. Hard for me to remember what it was like without the Planet. It all seems like a bad dream that I had years ago (ie. I'd rather not try to remember those dark days! :) ). This place is far superior to anything else out there for Buckeye news & views.

This is a strange one. HH is saying we land him, a goofus on the Iowa boards says he knows a kid in Greg's class and Greg isn't even considering OSU, and a FSU fan I know is saying he will stick with Michigan.

Don't know that HH said we would land him - he said to look for a Florida Kid that is committed to change his mind. The statement was a bit ambiguous in that he did not say if it was a FL HS student or a commit to a FL school. Given his HS connection, I took that to mean a FL HS kid, but that could have been wrong. Additionally, he did not say the kid was changing to tOSU, just that he would change his mind. It was on BN, so I inferred that to mean it was + for the Bucks, but again, that was just a guess.

He knew exactly how it would be taken...especially when fed to the Bucknuts free board.

At this point it is fair to say that something just isn't right here. Every public statement Mathews makes he strongly re-affirms his verbal to scUM and denies any real interest in OSU. The latest example is Kurelic's report on 1/20. (Note: While released on 1/20, it is not clear to me when the actual interview with Mathews occurred.) OTOH, HH and some other "insiders" have insisted that Mathews will switch.

Now either the sources of the "switching" info are way off or Mathews has misrepresented his status. Frankly, I am to the point that I hope the sources are just wrong on this one because I am very uncomfortable with Mathews actions over the last couple of weeks if they are right. Certainly he does not want to "burn his bridges", but his for attribution comments are much stronger than is necessary to do that IMO.

at the end of the day we have like 6-7 recruits that we'd like to take and about 3 spots if memory serves. If Matthews doesn't want to get on the Tressel train it'll leave without looking back.

still have Lyons, and Bowman has strong WR candidates, and Smalls all but signed.

Completey agree - It would be nice to pull one away from scUM, just because it's scUM, but would be very happy with Josh C., Small, and Lyons / Bowman / any of the other athletes we have signed that could get looks at WR. It's been said that Tress recruits Power, Speed & Big Speed as opposed to particular positions - there are a number of guys that have been signed that fit the "speed" criteria.
