'06 #1 team in the entire nation is...

I think losing Hawk is going to be a lot worse than people are making it out to be. Every single play you see A.J. right there. He's always in position, he's very athletic, experienced, humble(important trait that is often overlooked, ex. Charlie Weis), level headed, smart, the best tackler in the nation, and a leader. He's been healthy every game so I think we forgot what it's like not to have him. Next year everyone will definitely notice a drop off and almost all of it will be due to Hawk. He's such a difference maker. When Carpenter went down it hurt but we didn't notice that much of a difference. If our defense is going to be successful it is absolutely essential that we have a good pass rush and that will be hard without our three leading sackers(Kudla, Carpenter, and Hawk). I would put us top 8 but not top 5.

The defense is still going to have a ton of talent, especially if AY and Whitner come back.

Along with starters Pittcock, Patterson,

Look at all the guys we will be starting next year, that had some meaningful time:

Wilson, Jenkins, D'Andrea, Animal Jr., Penton, Richardson, Mitchell,

Then throw in guys that would have played this year, but there was injuries like Freeman and Gholston.

So while they won't be as good as this years D, they are still going to have a ton of talent and they have been learning from the best. It was said that Freeman would start on everyother team in the country besides ours b/c of our stack lb core, and lets not forget D'andrea beat out Schlegs for the starting job last season.

Also incoming freshmen and I think we will be ok.

And I havent even got to the O', but I don't think there is need to, we all know what we got.

Top 5 team for sure IMO.

Notre Dame......"brutal Schedule?"

2006 Notre Dame Football Schedule Sept. 2 at Georgia Tech ('05 7-5 8th ACC)
Sept. 9 PENN STATE ('05 10-1 T1st B10) Losing 17 seniors
Sept. 16 MICHIGAN ( '05 7-5 5th B10)
Sept. 23 at Michigan State ('05 5-6 8th B10)
Sept. 30 PURDUE ('05 5-6 7th B10)
Oct. 7 STANFORD ( '05 5-6 7th P10)
Oct. 21 UCLA ( '05 10-2 3rd P10)
Oct. 28 at Navy (Baltimore, Md.) ( Doesn't matter, its Navy for christs sake!)
Nov. 4 NORTH CAROLINA ( '05 5-6 6th ACC
Nov. 11 at Air Force ( '05 4-7 7th MWC....Instead of Temple, might weaken their schedule)
Nov. 18 ARMY ( See: Navy.)
Nov. 25 at USC ('05 11-0 1st P10, '06 Lose Leinart, Bush, maybe White and 17 seniors.)

Yet I suspect the ranking wont be far off, becasue of Brady Quinn, and that mastermind, and true(ly) offensive asshole..er genius Charlie The Hutt.
